I know that some people have said that they do not think the scent produced with this stone is comparable to a candle heated burner, but I have always been very happy with it. I usually add the oils without any water, but both work equally well for me. Yes, the bowl is shallow and therefore cannot take much water, but I don't have a problem with that. Perhaps the oils do need replacing quicker than in a candle heated burner, but logic suggests that if the oils have vaporised, they must be in the air, consequently scenting the room... This does a fine job scenting every room in my house.
I may be biased, because I far prefer to keep this plugged in unattended to keeping a candle (even a nightlight) burning. I have a very inquisitive cat who is fascinated by flames! I also find that it's very convenient for travelling. I've even used this in the office! Everybody loved it, said the room open plan room smelled far better with my little gadget running. Again, not something which could be done with a candle heated burner - health and safety would have had kittens if I'd been burning candles in the office.

I want not sure about it after reading a number of reviewes, but was proven wrong. I placed the stone in a large room, added water and 2 drops of Jasmin essential oil and the smell filled the room in minutes. Sure, if you are used to overpowering chemical parfums like the ones from body shop, then probably this is not for you. If you want proper smelling essential oil evaporation then this is great.
There are perhaps some minor critisisms: first is the amound of water this stone holds - which is not a lot. To avoid your oil being vaporised directly the stone needs to be checked regularly, maybe every 3-4hours. On the other hand its much safer then candle evaporators.
The other critisism is the lack of cord on/off switch. Pluggin and unplugging from the mains is a pain. Fortunately I added the switch myself, which is very easy to do.

This is a fantastic room diffuser. I had one before but I accidentally broke it and didn't replace it for years. I am sorry I waited so long. I use it every day with different essential oils to suit my mood or when I have been cooking something that leaves a nasty smell in the kitchen. It burns for hours before needing attention. At the moment I am using a Christmas Blend of oil every day and it just gets you in the mood for the festive season.
