This new compilation for Delta Xtra has many well known songs including her early singles from 1957: "The Banana Boat Song" also released on the album "The Bewitching Miss Bassey"; "Fire Down Below" b/w "You, You Romeo" also to be found on "The Bewitching Miss Bassey"; 1958: "Kiss Me, Honey, Honey, Kiss Me"; 1959: "As I Love You"; "If You Love Me (Really Love Me)"; "With These Hands"; 1960: "As Long as He Needs Me" b/w "So in Love"; "You'll Never Know"; 1961: "Reach for the Stars" c/w "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" (double A-Side); "I'll Get By"; plus a few tracks from the 1961 Norman Newell produced album simply entitled "Shirley" and with Geoff Love and his orchestra plus the follow up album entitled "Shirley Bassey" also from 1961 and with The Williams Singers (The Rita Williams Singers) and Geoff Love and his orchestra. The sound quality is excellent throughout. There is a liner note too and the packaging is attractive with a full colour picture of a young Shirley on the cover. A nice little set and a mix of lush arrangements and singles/novelty type numbers. The running time is approx 72 minutes. Well worth the price.
