Product Description

Product Description

BBC documentary on modern naval life follows Royal Navy crew on missions to the Gulf and Tsunami-hit Sri-Lanka. In the interests of a 'warts-and-all' portrayal, the Royal Navy exerted no editorial control whatsoever, making for often highly charged but honest viewing. As well as the daily lives of the sailors, the programme explores the lives of their families onshore. From the shore training facility at Torpoint in Devon to the decks of HMS Chatham and Ocean, the 5, one-hour episodes paint a comprehensive picture of a sailor's life in the modern navy

Synopsis

Shipmates chronicles HMS Chatham and the dramas of her crew's deployment in the Gulf. This BBC documentary series gives a lasting insight into the day-to-day happenings on a Royal Navy frigate.

Well I'll be honest, I was onboard HMS Chatham when this was filmed and I'm in the second episode about our work in Sri Lanka after the tsunami struck on Boxing Day 2004.
The series not only gives a fair and honest account of life at sea and on shore, and shows the Navy in its true colours, much more so than the previous series "Brilliant" onboard the ship of that name.
I commend the series. Enjoy

Having appeared in the series i can honestly say this is a true reflection of modern navy life. The tsunami in Sri Lanka was a hard time for the ship, and shipmates reflects the hardship and emotion the crew went through dealing with nature at its worse.allthough rab was not a shinning example the progamme did cover all aspecs of our live while away for a 6 month deployemnt showing how things for us can change in a heart beat. get it watch it and enjoy.Ratz (L/S AWW )

Get Chris back for another series covering our pirate ops in the gulf.

I wasnt sure what to expect out of Shipmates but quickly became hooked on its blend of realism AND entertainment.

I was especially impressed by Rab who showed a sort of tenacity not usually seen nowadays.

A jovial bloke who proves you need not have youth, looks, physical health or be clever to succeed!

Although I wouldnt go so far as to call him a rolemodel(he may have a possible drinks problem)it was inspiring to see him,at his advanced age, keep up with his youthful shipmates!

Shipmates was entertaining and informative and I reconmend it!
