This has got to be my favourite Non Disater mountaineering novel ever (Touching the Void is the best). It focus on Peter Boardman and Joe Tasker summit of the mountain Changabang in the Himalayas. This is a classic book and should be read by all Armchair Mountaineers. Forget horrible disasters story this is a good tale of a successful summit and a epic struggle between good friends.
"A Impossible Climb Two Men Against"
Although the book is about the successful ascent, it always makes me feel sad when i read it. At their time of writing it would be only be 4 years before both Joe and Pete would die on Everest. This fact is always in your mind when reading Pete's account in first person. and can be quite upsetting to think about.
But this is just my personal thought and shouldn't be taken into account that this is an amazing book and should by anyone who considers themselves a mountaineer!

A mountain of a climb and strangely poetice view of the challenge they faced. A book that manages to get across the hardships of a climb, the drive of the climbers and their personal thoughts and feelings, while allowing you to feel the cold, lack of comfort and at times painstakingly slow progress up a seemingly impossible face. A great acheievmenet on every level.

This book really made me think about the harsh conditions experienced by Joe Tasker and Pete Boardman. My mind has been taken to amazing places on the mountains.

If you like mountaineering stories then you will enjoy this one. Peter Boardman gives a very graphic and intimate view of these adventures which keeps the reader wandering what's on the next page. there is an element of suspense in places where you have to hold your breath. He is not as good as Jo Simpson but is well worth a read.
