CD Description

With her second international release, 'Shine', young British musician Dani Wilde does exactly what the title says. Her newest album pulsates with a warmth, energy and maturity that belie her years. Following upon her breakthrough Heal My Blues from 2008 and her eye-opening performances on that year's Ruf Records Blues Caravan tour, Wilde now proves she's a true triple threat as a singer, guitarist and songwriter. She penned nine of the eleven tracks herself, and uses them as a vehicle to tell stories that go far beyond the tried-and-true blues formula. Prime examples include the dark emotion she inhabits on "Don't Give Up On Me," the touching minor-key lament "Abandoned Child," the defiant exuberance of the breakaway tale "I Don't Even Care" and the exquisite drama of the Aretha Franklin-inspired "How Do You Do It." Blues aficionados will feel a Howlin' Wolf current running through "Born to Love Him" and shiver and shake as Wilde turns up the heat on "Red Blooded Woman." The Rolling Stones' classic "Miss You" gets a very bluesy reading with Dani's little brother Will 'Harmonica' Wilde handling the harp riff made legendary by Sugar Blue over 30 years ago. Throughout, Wilde displays an uncanny knack for blending old-school Chicago blues with contemporary soul sounds. Her vision: to bring British blues back to the younger generation. Under the guidance of renowned producer Mike Vernon (John Mayall, Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac), Wilde employs a large and diverse band anchored by bassist Roger Innis (Chaka Khan) and drummer Jamie Little, and featuring keyboard veteran Pete Wingfield (Chris Rea, Buddy Guy). Horn players Martin Winning and Matt Holland are both veterans of the Van Morrison Band. Wilde shares guitar duties with fellow Englishmen Stuart Dixon and Ben Poole (winner of Total Guitar magazine's most recent "Guitar Wars" competition) as well as California girl Laura Chavez, who made a lasting impression on the 2008 Blues Caravan tour and has since built a strong reputation on both sides of the Atlantic. This deep pool of talent helps bring Wilde's bluesy stories to life and allows her to sing them with depth and feeling. To give her heart and soul to the music. To do just what the title says. To shine. Product Description

Starkes Album! / Mike Vernon, Britain's Grand Seigneur of blues, has produced her second album. The young guitar player, vocalist, and songwriter has found her own style. Deeply rooted in the blues, her music sounds original and modern. Great tunes, great playing (her brother on harmonica deserves extra attention), and a cool production. Recommended. DANI WILDE - gtrs/voc, STUART DIXON - gtr, WILLWILDE - hca, DAVE LENNOIX -org,PETE WINGFIELD - pno, ROGER INNISS - bass, JAMIE LITTLE - drums, plus horns (2 tracks).

Please do not be mistaken by the title of this review, Dani's first album 'Heal my Blues' is a fantastic debut. The second album 'Shine' continues to have great song writing, fantastic musicians such as Ben Poole on lead guitar and Will "Harmonica" Wilde (Dani's Brother)obviously on harmonica and Dani continues to use her great soulful voice with great effect. However with 'Shine' being produced by Mike Vernon and the odd special guest 'Shine' has a more professional finish to it than 'Heal my Blues.'

Having seen Dani and her band twice at Keighley Blues Club and having bought both albums there is an obvious talent there despite their only being in their early twenties. Dani's voice is soulful and a joy to listen to, Ben Poole on lead guitar and Will Wilde on harmonica indicates that they have a great future in blues music.

The whole album is fantastic from start to finish. However there are a number of highlights for me. The album starts off with the title track 'Shine' which is simply superb. 'Red Blooded Woman' uses Dani's voice to such great effect that (excusing the pun) she sounds seductive. The cover of The Rolling Stones hit 'Miss You' just gets you singing along. The track 'Some Kinda Crazy' is just fantastic.

To sum up can't wait to see Dani and her band again hopefully at Keighley Blues Club. Also I just cannot stop listening to the album. People viewing this album also maybe intersted to know that Will Wilde has an album 'Nothing but Trouble' and Ben Poole has an EP entitled 'Everthing I Want.' And don't forget Dani's debut album 'Heal my Blues.'

"Shine" Dani's second major label release is produced by British blues godfather Mike Vernon and is a great sounding record using mainly session players like Pete Wingfield on keyboards, Roger Innis on bass and drummer Jamie Little. Dani wrote nine of the songs here, which veer from the modern blues rock of "Born to love him" to the classic soul of "How Do You Do It", and are really quite impressive. However, I didn't think that her version of the Stones' "Miss you" was different enough from the original. Dani's younger brother Will plays nice harp on most tracks and guitarists Stuart Dixon, Ben Poole and Laura Chavez join Dani on guitar. The CD gets off to a great start with the title track and my favourite track is probably "Where blue begins" with its blistering guitar solo. I did find Dani's voice a bit thin but she is young and I think that this is a very promising record which is a big improvement on her previous record "Heal my blues", with the songwriting in particular being very original and varied.

Dani Wilde made an astoundingly good debut album with `Heal My Blues', and I was interested to see if she could maintain the momentum with this follow up. She does not disappoint, and delivers another set of fiery blues delivered with real passion.

Wilde scores heavily in several areas - she has a great voice, amazing mastery over the guitar and a remarkable songwriting ability. These combine to make a superb artist who will hopefully enjoy success for a long time to come.

With a powerful vocal delivery packed full of soul that is reminiscent of Janis Joplin (not a comparison I make lightly!) she works her way through a set of blues telling stories of love and life. Added to this is a guitar that puts me in mind of Joe Bonamassa or Stevie Ray Vaughan which drives the songs along, punctuating the lyrics with soaring solos of technical wizardry. Really superb stuff.

Apart from the technical mastery, this is a really entertaining album to listen to. There are several songs that have one tapping your feet and singing along to almost instantly, especially the sublime `I Don't Even Care', the highlight of the album for me.

Great stuff. Long may it continue!
