5.0 out of 5 stars Best online purchase I can remember. 19 Oct 2011

What started out as a simple repair ended in an inexpensive, very satisfying upgrade. I began my repairs by searching and only needing a replacement for a broken hanger. My Tourney derailleur was a bit worn and worked horribly. I was expecting and willing to pay between $40 to 60, which is still being relatively cheap, so that I could feel confident in having great quality on my bike. The name 'Shimano' is supposed to be synonymous with quality, but my Tourney works like garbage. I was searching for the Shimano 'Alivio' but noticed the 'Altus' at half the price. The Alivio I had seen on many bikes in bike stores as a standard for low to mid range mountain bikes and even street bikes. I decided that instead of going big I would give the 'Altus' a try, like betting on an underdog. I am so glad I did and totally satisfied with the results.

Installation and adjustment took minutes. One test ride and a final adjustment and it works beautifully through all 21 gears (7 in the rear). Smooth shifting and quiet, usually, unless stressed with torque. I finally feel confident in taking this mountain bike to the top of Santiago Peak.Shimano Altus Mountain Bike Rear Derailleur - Direct Mount - RDM310.

I purchased this for my old school early 90's road/commuter bike. I am using it with a shimano mega range 7 speed freewheel, and it works great. Easy, and smooth shifting!

5.0 out of 5 stars Smooth, fast, and quiet. 17 Jun 2013

This was a quick and easy swap-out for a Shimano Altus derailleur originally on a decade-old Cannondale H400. The old derailleur worked well but the shifts were just a bit sloppy under load. For $11 + S/H, I popped off the old derailleur, popped on the new, routed the cable, adjusted the stops, and hit the trail. Perfect - no noise, smooth ride, snappy shifts, easy installation, cheap as heck. Buy it with confidence.

Update: Three months later and I have had zero issues with this derailleur. It is as fast, clean, and quiet as on Day One.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great fix for an old bike 31 Oct 2012

My father gave my son his old bike. My son is a Boy Scout and they go biking a lot. We had a new Altus Derailleur put on the bike by a bike shop before his first Boy Scout trip. That derailleur was derailed by another bike rider crashing into my son. When I went back to the bike shop to get it replaced, the shop was gone. So, we decided to try to replace it ourselves. The bike shop charged us $80 to put a new derailleur on. We bought this one for under $25 and put it on ourselves in less than one hour with a screw driver and a pair of pliers. If you are afraid of doing it yourself, go to Youtube and watch some videos. It is simple enough to do it yourself. The derailleur works well for our Scout.
