Product Description

Makina Hoshino is already dead, but she can't let go of this twisted world. She burned to death along with her entire family in a fire started by freaks that wouldn't stay buried. Makina knows she doesn't belong among the living, but that won't stop her from unleashing the full fury of her twin MAC-11 machine guns on the rotting remains of those who refuse to die. She's hell-bent on filling every empty grave she can find with the monsters that should be six feet under. Makina is a Shikabane Hime a Corpse Princess and it's her job to finish off the undead leftovers haunting the dark corners of a city that used to be safe.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mostly great 3 Aug 2011
This is an easy one to reveiw really as it's very clear with as to what's wrong and whats right with it.

Whats right with it-

1. The animation- Its fantastic to look at almost all the way through. The fightscenes are fluid and characters various motions both in and out of combat look pretty natural and flowing. Everything looks as it should.

2. The music- It complements everything on screen perfectly and makes even some of the not so good episodes seem completely immersive.

3. The story- This is the main thing youre gonna want to stick around for. Its a combination of uplifting, heartbreaking and just plain epic. There are a few twists and turns I didnt see coming as our young protagonists and the evil 7 stars get alot of fleshing out. Everything is paced pretty much perfectly. I found little time to become bored between story and action.

Whats wrong with it-

1 (and only). The ending. The final two episodes see a rather large dip in quality. The story is still alright, but the animation is just poor, especially when comparing it to the episodes that came before. And you really don't get much closure either... the final episode shys away from the main story which in my opinion is completely bizzare. The story in the final episode is fine. As good as any of the stand alone stories that have come before infact. But as an ending to the series... it's rubbish.

In conclusion- If you liked part one youll love part two... until the end comes along, then youll most likely be a bit dissapointed. This set is still a great purchase though, whichever way you look at it there are some amazing episodes included here.
Its not perfect... but still a thumbs up from me.

Thankyou for reading.

With Keisei dead and Makina imprisoned by the Kougon Sect, Ouri begins training as a contracted monk so that he can assist Makina in her fight against the organisation of powerful Shikabane known as the Seven Stars. The Seven Stars have their own plans however, plans that could course trouble for the Kougon Sect and their Shikabane Hime.

`Shikabane Hime - Kuro' is the second half of the `Shikabane Hime' series and contains the final twelve episodes of the series and a DVD extra episode set before the series itself that shows how Minai became a Shikabane Hime. This second half of the series is very entertaining and is in many ways far better than the first half. The animation remains good and the English dub is also solid. The fight scenes are very good with Ouri also getting involved in the action after some training. The plot is very interesting and some of the revelations about the history of Ouri and the Kougon Sect, as well as the true nature of the Shikabane Hime are also nice, even if some of them are somewhat predictable.

The only real problems with the series are that there are a few plot threads left hanging at the end of the series and that the series does have a habit of being somewhat corny in places. These are only minor grievances though, made up for by the interesting characters and nice fight scenes. Overall I feel that a mark of four stars is more than adequate.
