A Brilliant and Unique Anime Series! 2 Sep 2010
By Cody Shay - Published on Amazon.com
Shigofumi is a very unique title. It shares a lot of qualities with Hell Girl, as in it explores darker themes such as child abuse and vengeance. However unlike Hell Girl, it's not as episodic and has a well fleshed out greater story arc.

Like Hell Girl, the series events are set into motion by a single act of vengeance, which we learn about later in the series. We then follow the exploits of a mail carrier name Mika. Her job is to deliver "shigofumi", or letters from the departed. Basically, these are letters written from the dead to someone who is still alive. They express the purest emotions of those who have died, so they are neither good nor evil and their delivery can have either negative or positive results.

Normally, these mail carriers are those who have died and they do not aged. Unlike the others though, Mika continues to age. As the cast of characters grows in the series, we learn the reasons for this and learn how she came to be a mail carrier. Through these adventures, the characters are pulled together and learn many things about themselves and life in general.

This show reflects a lot of dark themes at times, but it is not all doom and gloom. There are many lighter moments and unlike other similar shows, the occasional moments of humor never feel forced or cheesy.

This series is simply put SPECTACULAR. It's unique. The characters are believable and likable (most of them anyway.) The music is incredible and fits the series perfectly.

Overall, this is one of the best anime series to be released in North America this year. This one is not to be missed!

Both storyline and plot were conducted beautifully and the fluidity of the storyline in congruence with the characters and their development was masterfully conducted by the creative team. Superb artwork and animation as well.
