More About the Author

A smile ... a cuddle ... a shared memory ... a story is much more than words.

Think back. Remember that special book - the one that you always chose. The one that made you laugh, the one that made you cry. The characters, so real, they are still in your heart and will be always alive...

I started writing full-time in 2006 and I love the job that I do. I want my stories to be those special ones; the ones that will be remembered forever.

I was born and grew up in industrial South Wales where factory chimneys outnumbered the sheep on the hills! When I was eighteen I moved to Bath where I trained to be a primary school teacher, graduating in 1987.

When my eldest daughter was born, I decided to leave teaching to spend time at home being a mum and to try to improve my cooking skills (which are still not good!).

More recently, I have supported children in primary schools where I have implemented literacy programmes and re-integrated children returning to school following periods of long-term illness. It was during this time that I became passionate about writing for children - convinced that language, expressed through wonderful literature, is the key that stimulates learning and imagination.

I now live in a hidden valley, surrounded by sheep, wild deer and cows with big fluffy ears! Along with my husband and two daughters, I share an ancient cottage with a huge Golden Retriever called Dylan, two cats, guinea pigs and a teeny mini-lop eared rabbit!

5.0 out of 5 stars A review - by my 4 year old son 10 July 2013
Format:Paperback
I loved this story. It was very funny and I loved all of the characters. The pictures were great, there was lots of things to look at in the book. Although it was longer than the books I normally read, it kept my attention all of the way through and I really enjoyed all of it. My favourite part of the book was when they realised what they were doing was naughty and they turned good at the end. It is just the sort of book I like to read and it is now on my favourite pile.

This is a wonderful story, my 6 year old has enjoyed reading this again and again. She has even taken it into school to show all her friends. If you or your kids like The Gruffalo, then you will love this too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best new picture book 5 May 2013
By LJF
Format:Paperback
I bought this a couple of days ago and my two children absolutely love it. It is a delightful tale of wrong-doers seeing the error of their ways and has something for everyone. My 3 year old bouncing up and down when she spotted the spider that is on every page and my 6 year old enjoying the moral twist. There is so much detail on every page it also, very importantly given the amount of times a favourite book is requested, makes the bedtime read lots of fun for the adult. Cheeky and irreverant rhyme and fabulous illustrations, I couldn't recommend Shifty McGifty more highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect read aloud story 16 Aug 2013
Format:Paperback
We love this book! we've only had it 2 months but my little boy says every word along with me (he is 2 and 5 months). lovely tale of two 'robber dogs' who get caught and realise the error of their ways - and end up opening a cake shop.

lovely illustrations with lots to spot on each page (we particularly like looking for the wee spider!) and all in rhyme so it's easy to read aloud for us adults! wish the author and illustrator would do some more collaborations. can see this being treasured for a long time to come.

This book is fab. It became our favourite the minute we opened the pages. The kids (almost 2 and 5 years) adore it - both the story and the wonderful illustrations. We love it so much we have bought extra copies to give as birthday presents. I can't recommend it more.

Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
We got this boo for our 5 year old girl's Xmas and she enjoyed reading it with us a great deal. Indeed our one year old son, my wife and myself also thoroughly enjoyed sharing the first read together. Its a cracking story, with a nice moral thread, with wonderful characters and beautifully drawn.

Well worth the purchase

5.0 out of 5 stars A really fun read 26 Nov 2013
By AOR
Format:Paperback
A friend gave this to my three year old and he absolutely loves it - definitely up there with his favourite Julia Donaldson books, which are always heard to beat. It's witty and fun with lovely illustrations and lots of small details to pick out and is also gently educational. Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for 5 year old
I always think these books are a bit scary but children these days seem to accept that good exists alongside bad without losing sleep. A little story with a moral code.
