As a 17 year old Sarah arrived in Hackney in the East End of London in 1969 to begin her nursing career. In 1975 she went into health visiting and practiced over 35 years in Kent and then Staffordshire. Sarah received the Queen's Institute for Nursing Award in 1998 and was awarded the MBE at Buckingham Palace from Queen Elizabeth II in 2006 for Services to Children and Families.
When her daughter, writer Amy Beeson, had her first child who better than her mum who knows everything there is to know about babies to give her practical advice and support. Sarah began by emailing Amy advice on feeding, sleeping and how you feel after having a baby. Amy shared it with a few friends, who shared it with their friends and they all said they loved it and wanted more. Sarah started work on 'The trust yourself guide to your baby's first year' coming out in 2015.
But there's more to this story. Just how did Sarah become the baby expert she is today? Her first memoir written with her daughter Amy, 'The New Arrival' is her story of nursing, love and friendship in 1970s London. Soon to be followed by a second memoir when she swapped the East End streets for Hopfields in Kent and started working with mothers and babies in The Garden of England.
