Amazon.co.uk Review

Sceptics who attributed the success of Sheryl Crow's 1994 debut, Tuesday Night Music Club, to a combination of Crow's seductive good looks and a shrewd choice of collaborators have been effectively silenced by the range and depth of songs and performances on her self-produced, pointedly self-titled sequel. Playing guitars and keyboards, and building a triumphant, layered vocal style, Crow is tough as nails and drolly soulful on the deft "Change", as noteworthy for Crow's crafty lyrics ("Hello, it's me, I'm not at home/ If you'd like to reach me, leave me alone...") as for its solid, mid-tempo groove. "Maybe Angels", "If It Makes You Happy", and "Everyday Is a Winding Road" are only the most familiar highlights in a varied and absorbing set that argues Crow is no one's invention but her own. --Sam Sutherland

This album came out in 95 in a flurry of gossip and rumour following the massive top 5 hit all i wanna do. Was sheryl any good? Could she actually sing? Did she write her own stuff?
YES YES YES- this album proved the whole music industry wrong, sporting top 10 hits *If it makes you happy*, *Winding road*, *Home* and *A change*.
I've been listening to this album for 5 or more years now and it doesnt tire, the music is so fresh, so effortless and has a sincerity that is sometimes lacking from her newer work
This album has everything you want, from all out athems ( if it makes you happy), quiet reflective songs ( home), songs with totally pointless lyrics ( winding road) and songs that seems to be written about you ( Home, The Book and Superstar). With heavy influences from the like of the Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac and the Steve Miller Band this album is sure to be a future classic
The high point of the album is redemption day, a song that really has its meaning on the eve of 9/11, the songwriting is the best to come from 90's soft rock and the production is out of this world
If you buy any Sheryl Crow cd, buy this one. trust me and the 5 million other people that bought it

An Upcoming Star! 8 Jan 2003
By Martin A Hogan HALL OF FAME TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
This 1996 album shows a lot of promise in who is now known as Sheryl Crow. The sum of the thirteen songs is played somewhat too safe and a tad clunky, but she finds herself in a few gems. Almost like a female "Eagles", Ms. Crow exhibits talent in many styles.

"Ordinary Mornings" has her screaming the blues with a great guitar lead that matches her vocals. "Torch Song" makes for a good bluesy number also with a nice guitar lead. If you're looking for a little country-western rock, "Redemption Day" easily satisfies that area. She could have done an entire album on that subject.

"Hard To Make A Stand" and "Love Is A Good Thing" are MOR but still provide a semblance of good funk to keep anyone satified. Only on the hit, "Everyday Is A Winding Road", Does Sheryl Crow come into her own - and it's a great single that set her off in the direction she now follows. It's upbeat, dancey and cheery.

This may not be her best stuff, but it sure has enough on it to make it worth the purchase.

the lyrics in some of the songs are amazing- u can relate everything back to ur own situation and empathise with the singer even if they have nothing to do with what ur going through. even if ur not depressed its good to chill to.

Her only album with bite.
Listening to her first album, Tuesday Night Music Club, you hear an album made for the radio waves. Light easy going and easy to listen to. Read more

Very good album
Fairly easy listening but as usual Sheryl's voice is fantastic! There is also some really good musicianship on here and the lyrics are well worth reading very often.
