From the Back Cover

Terror By Night: This film is considered to be one of the most impressive of the Sherlock Holmes series and the best 'murder on a train' movie ever made. Once the train gets under way, so does the plot. Holmes has not only a theft but a murder to deal with. "The Star of Rhodesia" a precious jewel has been stolen and the railway guard is murdered as the train makes its way between London and Edinburgh. The master detective is forced to use all his powers of deduction and with the help of his trusty aid Dr. Watson, solves the crime in this fast paced thriller.

Documentary: The Many Faces of Sherlock Holmes Hosted by Christopher Lee, who introduces a galaxy of stars that have played the great detective, including Basil Rathbone, Christopher Plummer and Peter Cushing. Lee also leads us through Holmes's London and on to a rare interview with the creator of Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This is a treasure trove of information ranging from the mundane to the arcane, a fascinating time capsule bursting with the endless incarnations of the most popular fictional character of our time.

It is a shame that such a cracking film has not had the benefit of a proper digital remastering. the soundtrack is an appalling hiss throughout. do not be suckered in to purchase unless you have no other recording, perhaps then companies will not rely on the fans to purchase any item regardless of quality. this all smacks of bargain basement money making.Basil and Nigel deserve better.

i will not even mention the 15 year old documentary stuck on for reasons that are unclear!

I have got both, the European version from Orbit Media and the American version from MPI Home Video. Orbit Media's version, which has not been digitally remastered at all and taken from an awful source, is horrible compared to the American verison!!! So be warned!

Although I am a fan of these recordings I feel that we have been let down with these DVD versions. Nothing has been done to improve the quality of the recording. In addition the distributors have put the same out of date documentary as an 'extra' on every one in the series. Therefore buying more than one doesn't gain you anything extra.

Only buy this if you're determined to have the entire set.
