Two more cases for the Baker Street detective. In 'Shoscombe Old Place', Holmes (Jeremy Brett) and Watson (Edward Hardwicke) investigate the strange behaviour of Sir Robert Shoscombe, whose prize-winning colt looks certain to win the upcoming Derby. 5.0 out of 5 stars Two solid Sherlock Holmes adaptations 28 Jan 2003
By Eve
Format:VHS Tape
Two excellent adaptations from the 'Casebook of Sherlock Holmes'.
If you are like me and have not read either of these original Doyle stories for sometime you will not be disappointed in fact after watching both episodes I ran for my hardback copy and was very pleased to see much of Doyles dialogue left in.
If you are a fan of Sherlock Holmes you'll probably have these already!
If you enjoy crime drama's especially with a historical slant you can't do much worse than take a look at some of the video's in this series.

In Shoscombe we have a deeply in debt gambler who is under suspicison of murder when a creditor disappears and human remains appear in his furnance.
Boscombe Valley a son is accused of murdering his father.
As always things are not quite what they seem.

These two episodes are taken from "The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes", which were the last episodes produced by Michael Cox. John Hawksworth here also makes his last contribution to the series with the script for "The Boscombe Valley Mystery." Both these contributors were, in my opinion, sorely missed in the later Sherlock Holmes series. Both are quite straightforward adaptations of the Conan Doyle stories, especially "The Boscombe Valley Mystery." Experience has shown that the best successes were usually obtained by not straying too far from Doyle, although "Shoscombe Old Place" does add a few details for dramatic reasons, not necessarily successfully. Jeremy Brett is wonderful as always as Holmes, although his ill health is beginning to show, and Edward Hardwicke is once more reliable as Watson. Jude Law also has an interesting role in "Shoscombe Old Place" in what must have been a very early television appearance. Fans of the old "Poldark" series also have a treat in store with the appearance of Robin Ellis. Isn't it wonderful that these series are finally being reissued - but where is a DVD for the European market?

1.0 out of 5 stars Incorrect listing 30 Nov 2011
Format:DVD
The listing says Eille Norwood (a silent actor) for a Jeremy Brett televison offering. I believed your false advertising and bought a couple of years ago. I see you still misrepresent.
