This is the second Barrie Roberts Holmes pastiche I've read, and I enjoyed it as much as his wonderful Sherlock Holmes and The Devil's Grail. Roberts has a tremendous knack for pacing, research, historical detail, and an uncanny ear for reproducing the famous duo's distinctive voices. Only flaws are the occasional lack of plot logic (but no more than Doyle), and overall this is tremendous good fun. This one has the requisite gruesome details and amazing deductions we come to expect from Holmes and co. The Wild West connections are well researched and interesting. And while this never veers into the parody, Roberts is quite funny. Highly recommended.
