A fascinating insight into the lives of the Sheffield poor and destitute in the 19th century. If you have anyone in your family who spent time in the workhouse, then this helps you understand why they were there, and what their lives were like. Well researched by Margaret Drinkall, and well written.

Sheffield Workhouse 3 Jun 2012
By dlp - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Book arrived great! Husband's grandmother and 2 siblings grew up in a Sheffield Workhouse after their parents were killed in a carriage accident. He was disappointed that not more was included about how CHILDREN were treated. It was interesting and at the same time, disheartening to learn the conditions in which they was raised. At age 14 she was sent to Pittsburgh, PA as an indentured servant. The other two to Canada.

Book construction was not best - a section fell out of the middle.
