This item is flimsier than I expected as the main perforated support plate was quite easy to bend without even trying. The tripod assembly is much lighter in comparison to my 8 year old stand - very similar though of much tougher steel - for which I paid then the huge sum of £10, but not from Amazon.
I have had chance to compare with a friend's fairly recently purchased similar stand from a local music shop and, despite my comments above, it compare very favourable with that one and at less than half the price.
Update 18 March 2014
The stand has now been in use no more than 10 times over the 8 months since purchased. About 4 weeks ago the fixing holding the three legs to the central column snapped away at the rivet fixing hole in the plastic. I emailed the supplier to point this out and in all fairness said they would replace the item but return postage costs had to be borne by me as over 6 months old. The cost of returning via the supplier is £10. That seems unreasonable as the goods are clearly not of merchantable quality. In my opinion no more than 10 uses in very light use circumstances brings me to that conclusion.
As the item is a relatively low value one it seems uneconomical to pursue this, though goods should still be of suitable quality. My now 9 year old stand, mentioned above, is still going strong and been used in very mixed circumstances and still in excellent condition - for £10.
In the circumstances I can only mark down my original view and rate the supplier as poor for customer service. Others may have had a different experience, though I believe that the durability of this item is well below the standard that should be expected.
