More About the Author

Jill Mansell lives with her partner and children in Bristol, and writes full time.
Actually that's not true; she watches TV, eats fruit gums, admires the rugby players training in the sports field behind her house, and spends hours on the internet Tweeting and marvelling at how many other writers have blogs. Only when she's completely run out of displacement activities does she actually write.

'Sheer Mischief'is a reprint from 1994, due, I imagine, to Jill Mansell's current popularity. I have enjoyed her previous books and found this to be no exception. The plot bears a resemblance to her other books, but I found that I 'got into it' better than some of the others. If you want a good summer holiday read that doesn't trouble the old brain cells too much, go for it! If you're after intellectual fare I wouldn't rush out to buy it.

I understand that this is one of the first novels that Jill Mansell wrote - you can't tell that, it's easily as good as her later works. As usual, she delivers interesting characters - even the "good guys" aren't perfect, and you have to love them for their faults. It's really no mystery how the main characters are going to end up - we can't let Janey stay with that bounder forever, can we? Guy isn't going to find happiness with those bimbos, is he? But what IS surprising is how they get there and what happens to those around them. It's not an entirely predictable book, yet ultimately it is escapism at its best. Settle in and enjoy!

I have enjoyed all of Jill Mansell's books that I've read and this is no exception. As chick lit goes I find her to be one of the more enjoyable writers. It's obviosuly not going to be a book that taxes you intellectually but then, chick lit generally isn't and that's why we enjoy it, you can settle down and forget about the real world for a while and turn off your brain. It's escapism at it's best.

The only down side to this book (and the reason it's not got 5 stars) is because it's quite predictable, you have a good idea of the various things thst are going to happen and could bet your mortgage on the ending. That said, how many chick lits book are there that don't deliver that predictable ending, it's the knowing there's not going to be a heart-wrenching trauma at the end that encourages us to conitnue reading them.

Jill Mansell books have a wit about them that is hard to beat and this book made long boring train journeys pass in an instant.

I have read quite a few of Jill Mansells novels but I have to say this is by far my favourite...Catchy, intriuging, funny...un-putdownable...Janey, Maxine & Guy are some of my favourite characters yet!

This book was a disappointment and not up to par with her other books. I initially chose to read this book because I wanted a little escapism, something quick and sweet to read in between other books, and I thought Jill Mansell is definitely the right choice.

Boy, was I wrong. This book was absolutely ridiculous. I mean, yes, granted, it's a chick-lit, so certain expectations go with that genre. There will always be a happy ending, it will always be cheesy and romantic, it will include the jerk, and the chivalrous hero, and two female characters, one who is absolutely clueless and naive and the other who is a complete skank.

So yes, as usual, Jill Mansell delivered on all of the above. But besides the fact that story line was so overdone and predictable as hell (again, I realize most chick-lits are predictable), but the quality of the story is what bothered me. What I usually love about Mansell's books are the short chapters, because I feel like I can fly through the pages in no time. Not this time though, it took me forever to get through the book and through the chapters. At one point, I found myself skimming huge chunks of text just to get to the freaking point.

It was very long-winded, stalled like no tomorrow, the twists and turns were so frustrating and annoying, and both protagonists were MEH. In fact, I found Maxine and Bruno a lot more interesting than Janey and Guy.

Definitely not worth more than a star in my opinion, however, that does not mean I've given up on Mansell. I simply did not prefer this particular book.

This is one of Jill Mansells best books, it is funny, full of well rounded characters that you can't help but love (or hate) I have just finished reading this book for the 5th time in 12 years - it is like a vintage Jilly Cooper, an old friend that you can read and know that you will enjoy it again and again.

Jill Mansell can always be relied on to produce a page turning tale. I love the various relationships and hectic lives of the young, and somewhat relieved that I have a slightly quieter life. A good story in which to lose yourself and your worries.

I have to say that this book is by far one of my favourites. I have just read another of Jill Mansell's books (Nadia knows best) and although it was an excellent read it just doesn't come close to this one. This is no discredit to Nadia knows best, Sheer Mischief is just so memorable. This is Chick-lit and Jill Mansell at thier best.

I recommend this book to everyone.
