I wept from laughing... yet also from mild despair, realising that his words described many of the feelings and thoughts in my early 50s life and, without a shadow of doubt, the characters portrayed bear a sad and dangerous resemblance to my husband. I really must get him to read this book... but would it make him apoplectic with rage? Probably, but no matter. To possess an ability for observation such as that displayed in Marcus Berkmann's book is surely a gift. A Shed of One's Own is pure delight, I'd recommend anyone to read it - whether it fits with your time of life, whether you're a man in search of his own inner shed, a long suffering wife, or just seek to understand why your ageing parents are the way they are. Ignore the one-star review, it must have been for another book. This is five-star material and you won't be able to put it down.
