If like me you are a big fan of the many, many, classic "Instrumentals" from the Rock and Roll era,
then this two discer of 50 guitar bustin' instrumentals cd is a worthy addition to add to one's collection.
Spectacuarly titled "SHAZAM!" or as I have titled my heading for cd "SHAZAM-ED!". Refering to the UK "chart battle"
DUANE EDDY was to have with one ELVIS PRESLEY as Duane's classic "SHAZAM" b/w "THE SECRET SEVEN" stalled at number 4,
in the Spring of 1960, being kept out of the UK's top three by Elvis's classic "STUCK ON YOU" b/w "FAME AND FORTUNE".
In the summer of 1960 Elvis and Duane would both battle over the UK's number two chart position, when Elvis already a
static at 2 with classic hits "A MESS OF BLUES" b/w "THE GIRL OF MY BEST FRIEND" got dislodged by Duane's classic guitar
rocker of an instrumental "BECAUSE THEY'RE YOUNG" b/w "REBEL WALK" as Duane literally thundered up the UK charts to second chart position.
In Oct/Nov of 1960 Elvis despite being some two months at number 1 with mega hit "IT'S NOW OR NEVER" b/w "MAKE ME KNOW IT" had to constantly
keep Instrumental rockers JOHNNY AND THE HURRICANES from the top slot as they pressured the king with there classic rockin' instro' "ROCKING GOOSE"
b/w "REVIVAL" as Johnny And The Hurricanes smashed into the UK's top three in early October.
Also Elvis's singles got very nearly "stomped" on in UKs 1960 charts as the Instrumental group THE PILTDOWN MEN classic rocker "BRONTOSAURUS STOMP" b/w
"MACDONALD'S CAVE" gave Elvis a right "stomping" as "Brontosaurus Stomp" literally was "stomping" it's way up and then eventually "stomped" it's way back down the charts.
But despite all this Instrumental "pounding" the King's three 1960 singles were receiving on the UK charts, Elvis himself had remained calm throughout.
Anyway, amongst this two disc cd are some absolute classic R&R Instrumentals[ALL are the original recordings]. So we have the original version of the 1959
classic "GUITAR BOOGIE SHUFFLE" by America's THE VIRTUES it was of course most memorably covered[also 1959]by Britain's legendary guitarist BERT WEEDON,
who would have his highest UK chart hit with it, peaking at number 10. For a full list of classic Instrumentals on this double discer AMAZON themselves have
very kindly included the full details. So as Duane Eddy found himself being at UK's number 4 in the spring of 1960 with "Shazam!" / "The Secret Seven" being kept
"Shazam-ed!" out of the top three by Elvis's "Stuck On You" / "Fame And Fortune" it is time again to revel in these glorious and classic Rock and Roll Instrumentals.
Regards,Bill.
