Abel, Part 3

Abel's heart is crushed by Devlin's vehement rejection and refusal to believe the truth about his brother. With the threat of prison hanging over him, Abel is sent away with Horatio Kaplan to Italy for safe keeping.

Certain he has lost Devlin forever, and broken by the reality that he has devastated Devlin's life, Abel takes an unexpected comfort in Kaplan when the man begins to show sincere care and affection for him.

...books, which make up one single tale.

This author was unknown to me til around 90 mins ago, when I read the freebie that is book 1, which ended on a cliffhanger, forcing me to find book 2, which ended on an incredibly painful moment, forcing me to find and read book 3, where the characters begin their HEA.

So, what's great about the series: the non-typical tale in that the stripper/dancers are all gay men, whose love for each other is more than that of brothers, but less than that of a lover and his beloved; there's a true sense of family between them. The guys all care for each other, even though that caring sometimes crosses boundaries that felt a little unclear. There is a lot of loyalty, caring and love in this tale, showing that you can find family as well as being born into one.

What's not that great and so loses the tale a *: there's no character development. We're told Abel is an angel, and almost everyone repeats this, but we find out nothing about what makes him so angelic to everyone. Yes, he has the body of a sexy twink and dances like a (wet) dream, and he has incredible love and loyalty for his sister, and in fact, she's his every driving force, but it still doesn't explain why he's an angel. We get told Devlin is Dr Grant, but this doesn't become apparent immediately, and makes for some confusing reading (I was wondering whether Cole was Devlin Cole or whether Gabe was Devlin Gabe, but eventually the author clarified things). We get told that Devlin has fallen irrevocably in love with Abel, and it is apparent that there's an attraction between them, but it felt more like initial lust, as they did not know each other and didn't get to know each other - though they found out about the connection between them - even really by the end of the tale.

So I finished this a little before midnight last night. Once again I was caught up in the emotions of Abel and Devlin and really felt their pain. It seemed so cruel that the actions of one man could ruin their entire relationship.

In relation to Kaplan, I'll admit that I softened towards him just not enough for me to enjoy reading the various sex scenes between him and Abel (In fact, I skipped some altogether). It just seemed wrong to me. But he's a nicer guy than I first thought. And I'm intrigued by the thought of something happening (again?) between him and Max.

As for Cole and Gabe it always seemed kinda obvious that they would get together properly instead of just hooking up every now and then. They're good for each other.

Back to Abel and Devlin. I'm glad that they finally ended up talking to each other, without someone running off in despair, and got everything out in the open. As everyone kept pointing out throughout: they are great for each other and so in love.

And I must confess that, although I could barely see through my tears, I really liked the ending. It was different but so good. I was waiting for an unhappy, throw my kindle at the wall, ending but it all turned around so quickly and nicely and I was wearing a big smile by the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars The end of the saga 16 Mar. 2014

Although the sub-title is "Shattered" and the reader feels like that reading the various twist and turns in the final part of this excellently written triolgy all the peices are put together in the end. To say more would be to spoil the ending so get the thre books and enjoy the series. An excellent read.

Brilliant end to a great story. can't wait to read Caleb. I know these books are probably not aimed at people like me but I read the story and if it a good story it's worth reading.

An absolute must read, ABEL. I read the trilogy in 2 days, could not put it down, this writer is now my favourite, the story is amazing. As soon as I finished, I downloaded CALAB trilogy did not think it could be as good, it was better, I'm emotional exhausted, brilliant so want DANE story and MAX's as well.
