Product Description

A male prostitute, a mangy cat, a murder and an obsession that threatens his career, his impending marriage and his life. Nothing is going as planned for Austin Glass.

Austin Glass seems to have it all, A loving fiancee, a future with the FBI and a healthy sized trust fund. At least on the surface. He also has a grin and a wisecrack for every situation. But the smile he presents to the world hides a painful past he’s buried too deeply to remember, and his quips mask bitterness and insecurity. Austin has himself and most of the whole world fooled—until he meets a redhead in a pair of bunny slippers.

As events unfold in the biggest case of his life, Austin’s carefully planned future unravels, and he finds himself pushed into making quick, life-changing decisions. But can he trust himself or anything he feels, when each event seems to be just a series of volatile reactions?

5.0 out of 5 stars 6 stars - Superb 18 Mar 2012

This is one of the few self-published kindle books that I thought the author should have charged more for. It is exceptional in every way. It is both an occasionally dark and terrifying crime investigation novel, as well as sweet and funny character-driven M/M romance. It is modern, quirky, shocking, touching, and thoroughly addictive.

The plot is detailed and keeps you guessing until the last moment. The characters are wonderfully unique, complex and well-crafted. As a result you genuinely care what happens to them, and are dragged through fear, torment, anxiety, sadness, and joy right along with them. The brilliant humour of the main character, Austin, permeates the novel and will have you laughing out loud. For me, this stopped the story from becoming too dark without breaking the flow, which was just perfect.

Lastly, I have to add that the author has done a great job in editing the novel. The M/M genre is littered with self-published novels with appalling spelling and grammar. This is not the case with this work. The author has clearly invested considerable effort to make sure that the writing is as technically sound as possible.

If you have a soft-spot for troubled kids, and like detective/ whodunnit novels, a bit of earthy humour and feel-good M/M romances, then you will probably enjoy this. I heartily recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Didn't want this book to end! A 10* read. 8 July 2012

I loved this book!Austin is not your typical cop hero and the same for Peters rent boy. They both have major flaws, Austin (I loved his self deprecating humour...... so funny) is in a fairly committed relationship and is engaged but a suicide brings up a long repressed memory and Austin is forced to confront his sexuality that he has subconsciously hidden because of his relationship with his estranged father. Not an unknown story line for gay romance but the difference is once Austin lays eyes on Peter, the beautiful redhead in his bunny slippers ( great scene ) he becomes like a heat seeking missile with Peter as his target and as a change to the usual angsty coming out, breaks his engagement after confessing his realisations to his fiancee, his best friend and his partner Luis - another dry witty character who shares some great lines with Austin - and pursues Peter obsessively to the point where his job and life hang in the balance. Peter is beautiful but cold ( there is a valid reason for this that is a big part of the story, involving Cai and Darryl) and is actually quite manipulative - there is much more to Peter than meets the eye . He uses Austins obvious passion for him as his own means to an end, but its not for the selfish reasons that Austin suspects at the beginning, which again makes a great change from the helpless male prostitute falling in love at first sight with the big strong macho cop! Having said all that I was rooting and desperately hoping they would get their eventual HEA and watching them get there is fabulous - the sexual tension and chemistry is palpable and the snarky banter between them is just perfect. Witty and sexy at the same time! Read more ›

5.0 out of 5 stars Best £2 I've spent in months! 12 April 2012
By Berty
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Absolutely loved it! Fast paced, intelligent, funny as hell, character-driven, gritty - it's like all the things you'd want from any novel, but with added romance of the m/m variety. The characters were so tangible, rounded and easy to empathise with I was really surprised to see that this is the writer's first published novel. Surprised and disappointed because I wanted more! The irreverence of the hero keeps a thread of humour running throughout the book and this balances out the darkness of the romantic interest's back story. I really enjoyed the way that despite the things this character had experienced in his life, he never came across as a victim - he was strong, pragmatic and caring if a little jaded and sharp-edged.

At no point did this story slide into any of the romance-novel traps like flowery prose ( although it does have a possible-cat saved from a burning building!) and the twisty thriller plot really felt like it had a well deserved equal billing throughout. I will definitely be watching out for more from this author.

Too good to put down, I read this in a day, staying up 'til 1 to finish it and I loved everything about it except that we never got to the bottom of the cat/not cat issue!

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant read 11 Mar 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I came across this title during a random browsing session and decided to buy it on a whim, so happy i did. This is a great read, made me laugh out loud and tore at my heart strings. I found it difficult to put the book down and when i did my mind kept going back to the story wanting to know what would happen next. All in all a very enjoyable book, would like to read more by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars My first M/M? 5 Jan 2013

I think this was one of the first M/M books that I ever read, and it helped sell me on the genre. Extremely well written, this book is quite delightful, although some of the sex scenes are rather graphic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gritty romance 19 Feb 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A satisfying read with plenty of drama, action and romance. There are some difficult topics and some stressful situations but ultimately it all resolves to a pleasing conclusion.

Spoiler below:
==============

The one thing that irritated me with this was this was yet another gay novel that had a main character getting seriously injured in a redundant attempt to tug the heartstrings (one assumes). As is often the case with this trope in this genre I honestly didn't think it was necessary, and I can't be the only reader who finds it upsetting to be offered a physically beautiful character only to have them ultimately scarred and hurt.
