There was some interesting advice and trivia here, and I read the 7 chapters in 7 days as the title suggested. But the level was mixed up there is a very basic glossary at the back and yet some advanced analysis on the Worrall attack.

It was a light entertaining book but to be honest there are some really top class chess books around now so I cannot justify a 5 star rating for this.

I no longer have much time to look at chess what with the kids, work and cleaning the car. This is the sort of book I like where I actually think I am improving as I go along. At 224 pages it will take a while to read but I have even read it on the train while commuting. An easy to read style and few chess cartoons make it likeable.
Newer players will certainly learn a lot as long as they have a basic grasp of the game and can read chess notation.
Overall I can warmly recommend this book to players rated up to 2000.

As always with Gary Lanes' books, entertaining and perceptive. I am enjoying, and learning. His examples are good, and his comments enlightening.
