We bought ours from Amazon but unfortunately it arrived having been dropped and damaged during transit. Better handling instructions for this relatively heavy item should have been given by Sharp on the box.
This microwave has a soft touch control panel which may be good for wiping down but the led window was also worryingly 'soft'. Because our unit was delivered damaged we returned it but can't help wondering how durable the soft touch control panel will be in use. The quality of the oven was first class.
We now have the Sharp R890SLM which has the same chassis, interior and heating gear but not the stainless case, push key door opening or the soft touch panel. We changed our selection because the R890SLM has more user friendly controls and does not have the soft touch panel. So far we are very impressed and it is very easy to use.

If you have had a Sharp P741M microwave oven like we have and if you have been lucky like we have to have had approximately ten years service from it, then when it fails, the natural thing to do is to find something similar.
Luckily Sharp has a replacement model which we found to be the R-86STM-A and it is relatively simple to use, just like the old one.
LIKES:
- Simple programme selection and very good programme choices.
- Two more cooking options compared to the old one, bottom grill and convection cooking.
- Flush front panel and controls, just like the old one.
- Family size oven will suit a good size plate on the turntable.
- Energy saving feature, display swithches of after predetermined time.
- Excellent operation manual and cook book, just like the old one.
- Quick installation guide, we have pinned it up in the kitchen just above the appliance so that everyone can see
it, until we all get used to it.
DISLIKES:
- Rather high lip on the turntable which means you have to be rather careful when removing hot items.
- Colour choice; although we dont mind the black and steel finish, an option in white would have been
appreciated.
We decide to buy ours from Amazon because we wanted it the next day and low and behold it arrived on time. The courier ensured they carried the substantial package the correct way round from their van to our house, so there was no noticable damage we could see after unpacking. We cleaned it out and heated some food in it right away.
This is a very good value for money device, good family size and easy to operate with an excellent choice of programmes. I only hope it will last as long as the one it replaces.

We purchased one of these in June last year. Almost a year later to the day, the turntable spindle packed up and would not turn at all if it had the tray on it. So we had it repaired at Sharp's local authorised repair shop, and now, just a few weeks later, the same thing has happened again!
When I bought the oven I'd seen a few reviews saying the turntable was no good and also there were a lot of problems with the digital display mentioned. I thought I'd give it a chance though.
But now we're going to chuck this one out and buy an alternative as what's the point of having this one repaired again if the spindle part is just sub-standard and is just going to pack up again in a few weeks?
It's such a shame as all the functions are there and it does cook well - when the turntable does what it should!
