Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The R270 microwave oven in white from Sharp is designed to meet the needs of the solo microwave user for versatile, speedy results in the kitchen. This stylish model presents the quality design features synonymous with Sharp’s solo microwaves, including handy one-touch auto minute control, allowing you to quickly reheat food at full power in one minute blasts, a stylish, easy-to-read blue LED screen, multi-purpose defrost options that offer flexibility for all defrosting requirements and more auto-cook options than its predecessor.

The auto-cook menus have been designed specifically for the user who wants every-day, quick and easy reheat and cook modes at the touch of a button. Old favourites such as jacket potatoes, rice and pasta are joined by new selections for fresh vegetables, pizza, popcorn and frozen meals. User operation is simple and clear; there’s even a handy reheat option for tea and coffee.

The R270WM also features auto weight cook and auto weight defrost options to take the guesswork out of cooking, while the speed defrost offers extra-quick defrosting when time is of the essence. A handy kitchen timer provides a little extra help in the kitchen, not only for microwave cuisine but also as a simple tool to time whatever else you are preparing.

    Sharp microwave 3 Oct 2010
    By Westo
This is the second Sharp microwave we have had, the other lasted for over 25 yrs. and was much bigger. Although smaller I find the new one to be more efficient and most dishes will fit into it. Definitely recommended.

Having had poor experiences with cheaper shop-brand microwaves that had combi-grills etc, but didn't last long, we decided to go for a Japanese brand that was only a simple microwave. After 5 days use we are very pleased.

The unit is well made. Nice touches we've noticed include the way that it beeps and says "end" on the LED display when it has finished. That means (1)You can tell at a glance you left something in there and (2) You know you already heated it. When you open the door the "end" message is cleared.

When the Start button is pressed on its own, it starts on full power for one minute. More presses on the Start button add a minute per press.
The cooking time buttons are along the top, so easily accessible. The buttons for the functions we'll never use are in the middle. The Start and Stop buttons are at the bottom, so again easily accessible.

Something that's different to many other microwaves is that the timer is not also a clock. We don't mind this as we have other clocks in the kitchen. It's also one less clock to reset after a power cut.

    WOT - NO CLOCK? 7 April 2011
This is a good basic microwave. It's a fair bit smaller than my old Sharp microwave on the outside but is bigger on the inside so that's all good and it looks nice. I prefer a rotary knob for setting the time etc but at the killer price I got a silver on for in Costco I was prepared to give buttons a whirl (sic) Glad I did it all works fine.
As mentioned by others there's no clock display - which is a bit mean as the 2 blue blobs permanently glowing make it look like you're too lazy to set the clock or you've had a power cut while you were out!
Also (rather misleadingly) in the photo on the box, the display is set to 12:00 - Looking to me, and a lot of other people probably, like a clock waiting to be set so you wouldn't suspect there was no clock until you plug it in and try to set it (Like me!)
Again as mentioned by others, if this won't bother you and you just need a smallish basic microwave oven you won't go far wrong.

    Update:
Irritating quirk found: When it's finished cooking unless you open the door it gives 3 beeps as a reminder (to open the door??) every 30 seconds or minute and it keeps going until you open the door. The longest I've resisted the urge to wang the door open to shut it up is about 5 minutes. I'm assuming it would carry on until Armageddon!
