Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The R270 microwave oven in black is designed to meet the needs of the solo microwave user for versatile, speedy results in the kitchen.

This stylish model presents the quality design features synonymous with Sharp’s solo microwaves. These include handy one touch auto minute control allowing you to quickly reheat food at full power in one minute blasts, a stylish, easy-to-read blue LED screen, multipurpose defrost options that offer flexibility for all defrosting requirements, and more Auto Cook options than the predecessor in this category.

More menu options at your fingertips

The Auto Cook menus have been designed specifically for the user who wants every day, quick and easy reheat and cook modes at the touch of a button. Old favourites such as jacket potato, rice and pasta are joined by new selections for fresh vegetables, pizza, popcorn and frozen meals. User operation is simple and clear - there’s even a handy reheat option for tea and coffee.

Up against the clock

The R270WM also features Auto Weight Cook and Auto Weight Defrost options to take the guess work out of cooking, while the speed defrost offers extra quick defrosting when time is of the essence. A handy kitchen timer provides a little extra help in the kitchen not only for microwave cuisine but also as a simple tool to time whatever else you are preparing.

Downgrading my 5 star review to 1 star having owned this microwave, or rather 3 of these microwaves, for just under 18 months. The first failed after 10 months when it started to randomly beep whilst not in use and refuse to cook. The replacement provided by Sharp was returned after a few weeks, due to a loud incurable rattle on the inside of the machine whilst in operation. The second replacement (third machine in all) has just died after less than 6 months of light use - more random beeping followed by a totally unresponsive keypad. Aside from the woeful reliability, I stand by the positive usability comments in my initial review, but would I buy again? Oh no....no....no....no. Avoid!

    ================

I bought this to replace a Panasonic NN-SD268M "Inverter" Microwave, that stopped working after just 2 years. This Sharp model cost half the price of the Panasonic, but in my opinion, performs just as well, and in some ways it's much better.

I was a little hesitant to purchase given the many comments regarding annoying beeping and the lack of a clock, but having used this now for a couple of weeks, I don't find either of these to be a problem. The beeping isn't that different to other Microwaves we've owned, and we have plenty of other clocks in the kitchen for telling the time.

Straight out of the box, this microwave was simple to use. It only takes a couple of seconds to punch in manual times and the three Autocook settings I've used so far, have worked perfectly. If simplicity is high on your list of purchase criteria, this is a good microwave to go for. It's quite a bit heavier than the Panasonic which is a plus, as it doesn't slide backwards when the door is opened (unlike the Panasonic).

5.0 out of 5 stars Satisfied Customer 28 Nov 2010
I am delighted with this microwave oven. It is exactly what I wanted - small and efficient. I read reviews before purchasing and noted the comments. Yes it is lightweight and would slide when pressing the buttons but I found a simple solution was to stick four non-slip pads on the feet and now it is perfectly stable. I was not put off by lack of a clock!

    1.0 out of 5 stars Lasted for 17 months 5 Dec 2011
    By Clive
Bought it off Amazon in June 2010, lasted for 17 months until it packed up two days ago. Out of warranty (which is 12 months) and Sharp won't replace it. Distinctly unhappy. It hasn't had heavy use (I live on my own). Powers up fine and runs but produces no heating effect whatsoever. Never been dropped or damaged in any way.

2.0 out of 5 stars Badly designed! 5 Jun 2010
For whatever reason, Sharp designed this so it gives piercing beeps with EVERY action, starting with beeps when you enter time and power -- what's the utility of that? -- and finishing up with four shrill beeps when the cycle is finished, while beeping every minute after cooking when the item is not removed. Sounds like a small thing but it gets quite annoying. Wish I hadn't bought it. I second the criticism also that it takes two hands to use, otherwise it slides across the counter. Bought this because my previous one was a great Sharp. Sad that it has been overengineered.

2.0 out of 5 stars I thought it was great but not now! 2 July 2011
I too thought this was a great microwave at a good price. However it has now packed up after only 17 months of use (the same as another reviewer!). It appears to work but when taking the food out it is still frozen and not cooked at all. I bought this to replace an older Sharp model that I had had for years but was looking tatty but was still fully working - I wished I hadn't bothered now. Really disappointed with this microwave and I won't be buying another Sharp after this experience.

I previously had a Sharp microwave - same specification but it was getting old. Replaced it with this, which looks smart but takes eg 50-60 seconds to heat a cup of tea where the previous one took 40 secs. Also, it is more difficult to push the button that opens the door without the whole microwave sliding away across the kitchen surface. You have to use one hand to hold the microwave still whilst pushing the button, or put something behind the microwave to stop it sliding. The programming buttons seem to be more slippery and have to be pressed harder, but if you press them too hard, you get twice the number of minutes/seconds you wanted and have to begin again! Apart from that, its great! Black does look smart though.

    1.0 out of 5 stars disappointed 9 May 2011
    By HeyJude
Purchased this item in Dec 2009 and up to now would have said product was good. Unfortunately, as of yesterday the oven failed to operate properly. It appears to work but doesn't cook the food. I know nothing is made to last but not really very good after 17 months use.

    Amazon Verified Purchase
As a young, newly wed couple, we picked up this microwave and it's been fantastic at re-heating food, etc. It hums away like a microwave should, but it's a nice subtle sound. The only pity is that there is no clock feature with this unit - which came as a surprise. However, I only take off 1 star because other people might need a clock with their microwave. It's a nice to have, but might catch you out. Otherwise, great unit and would recommend.

Excellent product, cheap price but not cheap and nasty. Enough features to satisfy most if not all even over more expensive items. 100% recommended unless your running a cafe!
