A great product. I used it for a whole year in France and always kept it on me. If you're learning French then I think an electronic dictionary is essential, and out of the few I've seen this is by far the best. Good full definitions of words with helpful IPA pronunciation, easy to use. So much quicker than a paper dictionary, it turns reading in French from a trial into a pleasure.

Bought this to replace the unreliable and slow Franklin BFQ450.The Sharp offers the Oxford Hachette French/English dictionary and is a far superior product to the Franklin. The keyboard is much higher quality and there is the choice of silent typing or a beep to ensure you have pressed each key as intended. As you type, it predicts your word, saving a lot of time. Unlike the Franklin it will never waste time searching for a word it does not know; translations and definitions appear instantaneously. If you enter an unknown word it offers similar words. It offers an excellent list of example sentences and expressions. Unlike the Franklin it gives phonetic alphabet pronunciations for French words, a facility which I find indispensable. It remembers your last 32 entries in each section so you can review your work. The navigation system is superior to the Franklin. It allows a quick or full view, a super jump to cross reference from one part of the dictionary to another and a zoom to toggle between two sizes in a clear font. The screen is deeper than the Franklin and displays more information at a single glance. It contains no trivial games. Instead, it offers the Oxford English dictionary and thesaurus, a calculator, the Oxford geographical dictionary, a currency and metric converter, a spell checker (with a break facility if it takes too long searching) and a puzzle solving guide for crossword enthusiasts. Unlike the Franklin it sits flat on the table so that you can use it with one hand. It is slightly larger and heavier than the Franklin, but still fits easily in a small handbag or pocket. The Franklin only scores better in having the facility to recognise all verb parts. The Sharp seems to contain major forms such as infinitives and past participles and usually offers the infinitive you want in its suggestions list. It also recognises irregular forms such as 'pris' 'soit'and 'etais'.

I did most of the search over net to find a useful product as it was not available in stationary shops in India. There were many products listed and it is a difficult choice to make. I think it is quite reasonably prices verses its features.

I bought this product for my daughter who is studying French in her school. She has found it quite useful as it has both French->English and English->French translations. Also it has English->English dictionary, so she doesn't have to refer to one more dictionary. So if she is happy as a user, I am also happy as a purchaser.
