Manufacturer's Description

How was that spectacular action scene filmed? What does your favorite actor do in his or her free time? The AQUOS BD-HP22S Blu-ray player from Sharp with integrated BD-Live function puts film fans right in the middle of the scene. The interactive feature lets viewers download bonus material from the Internet in addition to the inserted Blu-ray disc and then view it on their TV set. As well as Internet capability, the AQUOS set offers crystal-clear images, a huge range of connectivity options, and elegant design. The AQUOS BD-HP22S from Sharp offers film fans the perfect home cinema experience with extras, too. Thanks to its integrated BD-Live function, film trailers, photos taken during filming, or information about the stars can be downloaded from the Internet and then watched on an AQUOS LCD TV as a supplement to the film itself. Various technical features, low power consumption and the attractive AQUOS design make the BD-HP22S a real eye-catcher and must-have device when it comes to home cinema equipment. The BD-HP22S doesn't just play Blu-ray discs, and it also plays DVDs and CDs, too1. DVDs are upscaled to a resolution of 1080p with Full HD and 1080p/24Hz output guaranteeing excellent image quality. But great sound is just as important as image quality and Sharp's Blu-ray player also scores highly on this front with features such as Dolby True HD, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD.

Have I got a dud one? 18 April 2011
I bought this Blu-ray player to go with a Sharp HD TV, partly drawn by the proprietary link between the units and the quality of the TV. The Blu-ray playback is superb and when working, the DVD upscaling is similarly impressive. However, the player sporadically rejects DVDs, occasionally taking about three tries to read and accept the disc. This is getting a bit tedious. It never rejects Blu-ray discs, just DVDs. Is it a fault? Is it a warranty thing? Can I be bothered to actually go through the process of getting it fixed, if it needs fixing? Well, to be honest I can't be bothered and I am looking at other upscaling options from other manufacturers. So it would get a full five stars for the quality of playback, but it loses these due to the problems it has reading DVDs. I wouldn't bother about the "Aquos link" thing either, it doesn't do a lot. The TV is brill though so perhaps I just got a dud player. It was delivered with it's Sharp packing and a label stuck on, so it could have suffered from rough handling. Whatever the problem, I am not happy with the player so 2 stars.

Good adaptable player 30 Mar 2011
Player works well with Sharp Aquous Quattron TV, remote controls both well. Neat. A bit slow at reading discs, but I suppose that's it 'upscaling...'
