I really didn't expect anything from this movie, I paid 50p for it at a car boot and thought I might not get round to watching it. However I'm glad I did as it did surpass my expectations by a long way. As I was putting it in the DVD player I was thinking there was a fair chance it would be off and in the never to be watched ever again pile within 20 minutes. I was wrong.
Now this is nothing special, but there were a lot of things to like, which more than made up for the negatives. The evil scientist in his lair thing really worked for me, and I bought into the sense of desperation for the characters to escape from the island. If you can suspend your disbelief at there being a half man half shark lurking around then there's a good chance you will enjoy this movie.
However, there are a few negatives. Firstly the acting isn't anything to be admired, the leading actress was ok at best, as well as the evil scientist, but everyone else was pretty poor. This is what I expected beforehand so it never really put me off. Secondly, there wasn't enough of the sharkman, what there was good, but he was used sparingly, and only in glimpses. Finally, there wasn't a great deal of suspense, the kill scenes were all straightforward and I didn't jump once as you knew the shark was coming from the camera showing you glimpses through sharkmans eyes himself,
All in all, a good way to kill an hour and a half and worth more than the fifty pence I paid for it. If you like similar movies then give this one a chance.
