3.0 out of 5 stars B picture potboiler 12 Jan 2010
I got this for a quid in Tesco's and in fairness it's not a bad film. It's typical B movie fodder. Don't expect any oscar winning performances but it has a loony doctor fresh from toodle oo land, bent over assistant, mad experiments gone wrong, (or right as far as the doc's concerned,) plausable sounding scientific quackery, eye candy, explosions, jumpy moments, gorey bits with arms and legs bitten off. I reckon this movie can hold its head up in the genre.
Sharkman looks nothing like he does on the cover and it's a pity we never see all of him - he makes a curious croaking sound, like a frog.
The movie looks like it may have been made for tv as there are occasional fade outs as though for advert breaks. It is released by Boulevard Entertainment. I've bought a few of their titles and I must say they usually turn out to be pretty good movies and good value. This one has nice clear picture and sound. It's great B picture twaddle. - Yep, I'll rubber stamp this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth a watch 14 Mar 2013
I really didn't expect anything from this movie, I paid 50p for it at a car boot and thought I might not get round to watching it. However I'm glad I did as it did surpass my expectations by a long way. As I was putting it in the DVD player I was thinking there was a fair chance it would be off and in the never to be watched ever again pile within 20 minutes. I was wrong.

Now this is nothing special, but there were a lot of things to like, which more than made up for the negatives. The evil scientist in his lair thing really worked for me, and I bought into the sense of desperation for the characters to escape from the island. If you can suspend your disbelief at there being a half man half shark lurking around then there's a good chance you will enjoy this movie.

However, there are a few negatives. Firstly the acting isn't anything to be admired, the leading actress was ok at best, as well as the evil scientist, but everyone else was pretty poor. This is what I expected beforehand so it never really put me off. Secondly, there wasn't enough of the sharkman, what there was good, but he was used sparingly, and only in glimpses. Finally, there wasn't a great deal of suspense, the kill scenes were all straightforward and I didn't jump once as you knew the shark was coming from the camera showing you glimpses through sharkmans eyes himself,

All in all, a good way to kill an hour and a half and worth more than the fifty pence I paid for it. If you like similar movies then give this one a chance.

Like b movies, didn't think much to this one though. The story was pretty lame and the actors not much better. You just knew when someone was going to die. They seemed to always hang around in the most obvious places. If you haven't got much else to do then watch, otherwise i am sure there are better movies around.
