5.0 out of 5 stars Heinlein Heir with Nathan Lowell - Outstanding Series Just Keeps Getting Better 8 April 2013
By Michael Gallagher - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
I am re-publishing this review as Mr. Lowell had his book rights returned to him and has published the book under his own imprint.

If you haven't read the first two books in the series, you can read this one and it will be okay but I strongly recommend you read them so you can understand the dialogue of the characters and the dynamics of this excellent series. Start off with Quarter Share (Trader's Tales from the Golden Age of the Solar Clipper), then continue with Half Share (Trader's Tales from the Golden Age of the Solar Clipper), then you will be ready for this one.

Without having a spoiler, let me tell you what I really liked about this one. I love science fiction, and this one is really a coming of age series disguised as science fiction. If you like Robert Heinlein, you will absolutely love Nathan Lowell's work.

You continue the journey of Ish as he continues to mature from a boy into a responsible young man. I think what I like about Nathan Lowell's Solar Clipper series is he does a masterful job of making you feel like you are one of the characters in the story. This next comment may sound really strange, but to me he tells you the details that most authors avoid without ruining the story of the interactions between people, what they are feeling, and even what they had for lunch and dinner. You find yourself rooting for Ish as you turn each page.

I've been waiting for this one to come out for a long time - now I can't wait for the next one in the series!

3.0 out of 5 stars It's been "new" before 10 Mar 2013

I had to double check my previous purchases because this was showing a 2013 pub date. I originally ordered this book in 2011.

I don't like reordering merchandise because a self published author found a publisher or had some corrections.

It also makes me uncomfortable when its re-published and immediately has three, five star reviews.

Good book but it makes you go hmmmm.

I think the price doubled since the original release too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hope he finishes Owner's Share soon. 20 Nov 2013
By Giles Swatos - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have really enjoyed this series from Nathan Lowell, and hope he finishes Owner's Share soon. I also urge him to go back, and fill in the missing years he skipped over (4 years missing at the Academy and 10 years missing between Double and Captains Share). I'd also like him to revisit the characters he built up, and then discarded like so much dross. He goes to the Academy with 3 crew-members, and then we get 1 line writing each of them off into space. Do these people not communicate ever again? They were great opportunities for Ish to have dialog, work out problems, soliloquy his heart out... I can't believe that Ish would choose to sign on with an unknown ship line, in an unknown sector of space, without any of the contacts he built up on the Lois. Oh, his new employer offered him more $ than anyone else, and that's that? Nah, doesn't compute. More trading would be good too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great read ! 26 Sep 2013

When I began the first book in the series, Quarter Share, I could not put it down. Each book has been the same, including this one. Everyone I have recommended the series to also cannot put them down. There is no whiz bang tech, no space battles, no pawn in the grip of destiny, and so forth. What you have is a superbly, deceptively simply written, story of a young man's growth and life on a space age merchant ship. The character is layered and each book shows more layers and growth. This is an upbeat book and each book has a satisfying ending. I highly recommend this book, and the whole series. Once you begin, you too will find you cannot put it down!
