This cd is wonderful compositionally, as well as instrumentally. Scott Reeves writes very warmly, and his music is also intellectually very stimulating. He understands the poetry of music--- the balance, the internal rhyming that passes before the listener. The group is pure New York--- even while showing deep respect for Memphis born James Williams, or summoning up the rich flavor of Brazilian music. The music balances complexity and simplicity well, and ends up surprising us with simple musical truth, very thoughtfully wrought.

Scott Reeves is an innovative , sensitive brass player. A fine trombonist , however I enjoy his unusual choices of instruments even more. I own 4 of his releases and he plays bass tpt. alto f.horn and a variety of horns that are not normally associated w/ jazz. This is a live date from 2008. The tunes are complex , beautifully rendered, Great empathy / ears from the combo as well. Brilliant clarity , especially for a live date.
