Book Description

Give a kid the power to shape the world…and hope he doesn't destroy it.

Puberty isn't the same for Jerry Aldridge as it is for other teenagers. There's no time to worry about a cracking voice. Jerry must learn to control a gift given to him by a higher power.
And it all starts with a kiss. One afternoon, in the bedroom of the girl of his dreams, Jerry comes face-to-face with who he truly is — a shape shifter.

After his mother's tragic passing, Jerry is forced to leave the girl behind and move to Florida with his grandparents. As he ages, shifting becomes easier to control. Even with the ability to become anyone or anything, something is missing — the girl.

And revenge.

Jerry blames his father for his mother's death and for what he has become. He embarks on a quest to get the girl and taste revenge. As his powers evolve, the line between right and wrong become blurred. At heart, Jerry knows he's good, but evil can be a damn good temptress. And in the end her touch may be too much to overcome.

The Shape of Things to Come is a unique take on the origin of good versus evil, set in the 1980s when hair metal ruled the airwaves and acid-washed jeans were actually fashionable.

4.0 out of 5 stars pretty good 1 Aug. 2014

This was a pretty good book and kept me wanting to see what would happen next.
This writer is said to be an award winning editor and author but I think he should hire someone to help him. There were several mistakes, one which actually made me laugh out loud, was when he used heard when referring to a herd. There are multiple mistakes like this in here but it's a good story so I just corrected it in my mind and moved on.
There is a religious undertone to this book once you get about 1/3 of the way through but it's part of the story. I felt some of it was unnecessary to the story but that's just my opinion.
If you're looking for a happy ending, this is not the book for you. I could see another book after this one where there is a happy ending but I'm not sure if this writer wrote another one or if he plans to. I'll look later.
I would definitely read more from this author. This was well done and I enjoyed it very much. I would recommend this book for ages 16 and up due to the sexual content, lightly used foul language, and violence. Parental guidance highly suggested.
There were also 4000 pages on my iPhone kindle app so it was a nice day long read.

This is the first book by an up and coming horror writer, Paul Seiple. I decided to read this book because I thoroughly enjoyed his second book, "The Dark Stuff". "The Shape of Things to Come", while not poorly written, seems to be dragging on and on. It seems like the author was just trying to fill pages. This novel tells the story of Jerry, a shifter, starting from an early age till his teen years. There seems to be a lot of filler in between, making the story sound more boring than it should have been. There are hundreds of references to 80's metal bands, which I liked, because I am a fan of this music. Even though I did not enjoy this book, I am looking to Paul Seiple's upcoming works because he shows potential in the horror novel genre.
