Specialist stuff. 1 Jan 2012
By Chopper
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The author takes the reader through the origin & history of sea shanties. In this I found some interesting snippets of information and it was presented in an organised & logical manner.
Then the rest of the book has the lyrics of many sea shanties. Unfortunately no music scores or other clues to the tune or melody.

This book might suit an historian or music teacher.

Good old shanties 5 Jan 2012
By Dotty
Format:Kindle Edition
I got this for my husband who likes poetry and he says its a good book. He knows some of the songs but would have liked the music to them.

Not what I expected 21 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Deleted this after 15minutes, not what I expected and no use to me. Format was hopeless and content not good either.

point is 'Haul away, Joe,' No. 28. Miss Smith is correct in giving it in the minor form which once obtained on the Tyne, and I am inclined to hazard the opinion that that was the original form and not, as now, the following: Haul away Joe [Listen] "e;

'The Drunken Sailor' (a distinctly modal tune) sung in the major as follows: The Drunken Sailor "e;
