Excellent book for any genuine Liverpool fan with an interest in days gone by. This book was written by John Roberts but with Bill Shankly narrating the story of his life. Probably the only acurate account of Bill"s early years and his arrival at Liverpool football club and determination to make the club the best in Euope. Good value for money and written in Bill"s own words. A must for anyone who wants to know the real story.Shankly: My Story by Bill Shankly

Bill Shankly straddled the old and the new. He was around when football was a working man's sport, and he saw the development of the superstar footballer, but he never forgot his roots. In the book he gives plenty of homespun philosophy which still holds true to-day. Bill Shankly was a forceful character, and to a certain extent you can see why Liverpool were afraid to employ him in any sort of capacity after he retired. I imagine they could not imagine that he would keep his thoughts about the progress of Liverpool FC to himself. Bill Shankly was perhaps one of the last old school football managers, but he is remembered with fondness by many. I do not think that this book is just for Liverpool fans, but for anyone for enjoys football, and fancies a trip down memory lane certainly as far as I am concerned to the 60's and 70's of football, and to be reminded that footballers were not always the mega stars that they are to-day, and that they used to play on Christmas Day!!
A good and interesting read well worth being reproduced, though many of the contributors at the end of the book have also died.
