Product Description

All 12 episodes from the American remake of the successful British comedy drama series following the dysfunctional Gallagher family. William H. Macy stars as Frank, the head of the Gallagher family and father of six. Despite the absence of their mother, Frank leaves his children to fend for themselves, and instead spends his time drinking and illegally claiming benefits. In this series, Frank gets involved with some gangsters and to get out of trouble fakes his own death with the help of his family. The episodes comprise: 'Pilot', 'Frank the Plank', 'Aunt Ginger', 'Casey Casden', 'Three Boys', 'Killer Carl', 'Frank Gallagher - Loving Husband, Devoted Father', 'It's Time to Kill the Turtle', 'But at Last Came a Knock', 'Nana Gallagher Had an Affair', 'Daddyz Girl' and 'Father Frank, Full of Grace'.

Synopsis

Meet Frank Gallagher (William H. Macy): proud, working-class patriarch to a motley brood of six smart, spirited and independent kids who, without him, would be... better off. In Frank's booze-addled view, parenting just eats into his hard-earned bar-crawling and carousing time around Chicago -- so he leaves it to eldest daughter Fiona (Emmy Rossum) to hold down the fort. Bearing the de facto parent badge/burden, she's donned the proverbial apron and makes sure her younger siblings do their chores, keep a clean(ish) home and feed the kitty -- the Gallagher family fund jar -- because the gas bill is due, and everyone (no matter how small) works to keep the house lights on, as well as food on the table. Brothers Lip , Ian and Carl use their intellect to break every rule in the book to survive and make the bank, while younger sister Debbie would sooner steal her share. The Gallaghers are irreverent, endearing, resilient -- and they're absolutely, wildly and unapologetically SHAMELESS.

First of all no remake can be as good as the first four seasons of the U.K version before it went down hill badly(I've stopped watching because its now pure muck) anyway this U.S version is o.k and while theres only one Frank in my book(and he aint William H.Macy) this is still a good remake. The action of this U.S version takes place in Chicago as opposed to Manchester and some of the episodes have similar plots to the U.K version. Still worth a look and removes all memory of the terrible Life on Mars remake from my mind. Especially worth watching for first time fans.

Shameless Season One:
First off, in my opinion, the US Shameless is way better than the UK version.
Saying that I'm British, and I have never been able to sit through a whole episode of the original, like ever. Shameless USA has all the right ingredients to make this one the greatest shows on TV today.

Finally the US has produced a remake that is not only much better than the original, but one that actually works in every way possible. To me, this is probably the first time a US remake has got it right on so many levels.

The Cast:
The Actors in this show are amazing... and so talented.
Lip (Jeremy Allen White (My All-Time favourite character)), Fiona (Emmy Rossum) & Frank (William H. Macy) are, in my eyes, three of the strongest actors on this show, they each give so many memorable performances, and play off each other like they are in fact a real family. The rest of the cast also get their chance to shine throughout, and provide us with some great moments as well, from the kids, to the neighbours, I haven't been annoyed by one character yet. All the Actors connect so well, which is another major plus.

The Episodes:
Shameless Season One starts with an introduction to the Gallagher family, they may seem crazy and out of control at first, but believe me, it won't be long till you find yourself rooting for them & they may even start to feel like family before you even know it. Set in Chicago in the winter season, was a nice touch for its First Season, I can't explain why, it just, to me makes the show feel more comfortable. These 12 brilliant episodes from the First Season bring so much to the table; each episode will have you going through emotions, and sometimes you may be left feeling depressed at how much goes on in this family's life.

Worried at first about another US remake of a great UK show, I decided to give it a try after hearing several good reviews.
The pilot is a bit weird to watch, as it is an exact copy of the original pilot. But mid season, the US storylines become independant of the UK shameless and the show start to be very good.

That season 1 was a great surprise. And season 2 and 3 were even better.

I have never seen the original UK version of Shameless so I can't compare, but I found the US Shameless to be an excellent show. Great acting, great writing, dark, funny, moving - a quality show which I expected when I saw that William H,Macy was involved. Waiting for season 2 on DVD now.

The british version of Shameless pales into comparison against this great US remake. Macy is far superior as Frank as is the rest of the family. This time the Americans have made surpassed themselves.

I haven’t seen the UK version yet, but I hope I will see it soon. The USA version is really good but hard to watch at first because it presents the human misery in a realistic manner.

William H. Macy is playing Frank so well it’s hard to restrain yourself and not to destroy the TV. Frank is a miserable human being and to watch him do all the bad things he does every single day it may prove to be difficult.

In conclusion: a good TV show if you have the stomach for it.

Finally a decent Frank Gallagher! I hated the UK version, because of the self satisfied idiot who played Frank. This version is so much better!
