I'm fairly new to shamanic work and don't have the luxury of a drummer to hand whenever I want to journey. This does the job of easing me into another plane of consciousness.
There are 4 tracks on the CD. A single drummer playing for a 15 minute and a 30 minute journey, including "callback" time. Also a 15 minute and 30 minute journey with two people drumming. The sound quality of the recording is good with the right amount of acoustic space bouncing the beats around. However it cannot compare to sitting next to someone drumming where you can feel the resonance from the drum directly.
Recommended for the solitary journey.

A good disc for journeying too. It saves you trying to develop the skill of drumming for yourself whilst journeying, or having to have someone there to do it for you. It has programs for a 15min drumming, or 30mins... both useful, and each available as a single drum, or double. Very effective. Recommended.

Falls Flat

I appreciate the good work that Michael Harner has done in the realm of anthropology and shamanic studies, but this drumming CD falls flat. It's not that the drumming is bad, but the recording of it is flat and thin sounding. It contains none of the richness that I am sure is there when it is played live. Luckily there are better drumming CDs out there for people who have a shamanic journey practice. Laura Chandler's "Sacred Drums for the Shamanic Journey" is thus far at the top of my list.

Helpful Tool For Shamanic Journeying

This shamanic drumming tape is a great tool for shamanic journeying when live drumming is not available or possible. It's a no frills simple recording of a steady beat of solo or double drums with call back in either 15 or 30 minutes tracks. That's all one needs to successfully journey. I have been using this CD for many years. It is also the one I utilize the most, even though I have several other recordings including ones of rattle and string.

I bought a copy of this tape years ago and used it several times in conjunction with reading Michael Harner's book 'The Way of the Shaman'. 'Shamanic Journey Solo and Double Drumming' is not meant to be listened to as ambient background music, or some fluff "New Age" composition to enjoy as you drift gently off to sleep. This recording is specifically designed as a tool to aid the practictioner in solo shammanic journeying and nothing more. It's not magical, just hearing the repetitive drum beat will not suddenly lift you out of your body and take you on an astral voyage. It's up to you to prepare yourself properly and apply the appropriate journeying techniques for the drumming to be of any use.
If you know what you're doing it will be helpful. If you don't all you'll end up with is a splitting headache.
