Badly written, plot didn't flow or stack up - found it difficult to finish reading it. Some of the descriptions/explanations of the racing world were well written clearly knows his subject

4.0 out of 5 stars Fifth in the series 15 Aug. 2013

Out of the Shallows is the fifth in a series of horseracing mysteries following the adventures of trainer/jockey Danny Rawlings, when the champion racehorse Artemis and his rider Bert Mills go missing during a race it leads Danny into a dangerous mission to discover the whereabouts of his neighbour and will it be his thoroughbred Salamanca that gets taken next? It might not be as fast paced as the previous books in the series but it contains a very topical subject throughout. This book again demonstrates the comprehensive knowledge the author has of his subject, a well thought out and constructed novel.

A little disappointing, certainly not one of his best ... had high hopes after reading his trilogy, culminating in The Tryptych
