Amazing,
By Michael Smith ""SAY HELLO TO GOOD TIMES"" (Norfolk, UK, in a little village named Crimplesham...) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Shallow Life -Deluxe- (Audio CD)
i'll admit to posting an overtly gushing review for this album not long after it came out last year.
those words are still valid, and to an even higher degree! i love all the songs now, bar two. but with this special edition with three bonus studio recordings (two i already owned and one new one) that makes 15 new songs overall, 13 that are are strong (around eight that are my personal Lacuna Greats) making this a superlative, near perfect release. the bonus live tracks, and acoustic sessions, are powerful. my fave is the live version of 'I'm Not Afraid' which ia powerful and shows off how great these songs really can be. mass sing-a-longs ahoy! new track 'Leaving Alone' at first seemed to fail to make any impression, but alongside Not Enough, The Last Goodbye and Oblivion, heck, even I Like It, it has become part of my new faves, and for me i love the band even more for this more commercial slant. not because i think it makes them better, but because they took that risk, lost fans, hopefully made some new ones, but stuck to doing what they do best. which is to release quality songs and create haunting melodies. to be completely honest though, at its worst this era for the band is drivelly. i cannot stand the dire repetitiveness of The Pain, the cringeworthy poor-poor me lyrics and bland harmonies of Underdog and i remain decidedly undecided on the positive or negative attributes of the maze. so there, two songs i don't have time for, and one i don't really care about. so that to me is brilliant. shallow life on its own is worth 4/5, contrare to my previous review. with the bonus tracks its a full 5/5, because the good and great SERIOUSLY outweigh the bad! if you're a fan, or just curious, buy it!

Another Excellent Album,
This review is from: Shallow Life -Deluxe- (Audio CD)
The title says it all if you like Lacuna Coil you'll like this album. The deluxe is a must providing the extra Acoustic & Live CD.

A sweeter 'Shallow Life' !!!,
By David Falzano - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Shallow Life -Deluxe- (Audio CD)
I feel repetitive with a lot of my reviews but I suppose this is a good thing because Lacuna Coil is another example of a veteran metal/rock band which continues to deliver quality music time & time again. When you first pop 'Shallow Life' in you think you are hearing another 'Karmacode' but as the CD progresses you can hear a more progressive/melodic Lacuna Coil. Of course Lacuna fans know that the band is melodic but obviously over the last few albums the band has become more eclectic with their song writing & I think it's made them become a much better band...more beautiful melodies, more upbeat songs & just plain catchier music to pump you up! With this deluxe edition of 'Shallow Life' we not only get the excellent album itself but a whole other disc with a mixture of tracks. The first 3 are studio tracks which sound like they were originally left off of the album (the first 2 are great especially "The Last Goodbye".) Tracks 4-6 are live acoustic versions of "Spellbound," "Closer," & "Within Me." These tracks are decent but not really exciting especially since "Within Me" is already a mellow track. And finally the best part is the live "plugged" tracks (7-12) especially "Survive," "I'm not Afraid," "I Won't Tell You," & "Fragments of Faith." Also, I like the expanded artwork much better as there is a lot more pictures of the band in various cool poses & just having fun as well. True fans will love this enhanced version!! Get it!!
