Ten of Shakespeare's best-known stories are retold ... with a twist! Hamlet - ten bodies litter the stage. Horatio is number one suspect ... but is it an open-and-shut case? This is one of my favorite books. I am a Shakespeare nut and I read this at a friend's when about to go see Julius Caesar. I loved the book and when I got home I ordered it. It has ten wonderfully funny stories about Shakespeare, as well as ten wonderfully funny Shakespeare summaries. A great book for all ages.

From the popular TOP TEN series of books `SHAKESPEARE STORIES`.

`William Shakespeare wrote plays. He didn`t write them just for people to read in school or for teachers to use for impossible exam questions Let`s get this straight:-

Shakespeare wrote plays so people would be entertained. He wanted people to have FUN!

And when Elizabeth I and King James I (King James VI of Scotland) were ruling Britain, people did have fun watching performances of Shakespeare`s plays. The plays were, and still are, every bit as entertaining as today`s TV soap operas.

They have death and destruction, jokes and jests, weird witchcraft, rogues and royals, hatred and heartache, blood and butchery...........

So here they are. The ten plays selected here are the ones that have been performed most over the past one hundred and fifty years:-'

192 pages, split into chapters:-

Introduction

STORY 10 - A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM

STORY 9 - KING LEAR

STORY 8 - TWELFTH NIGHT

STORY 7 - THE TEMPEST

STORY 6 - THE MERCHANT OF VENICE

STORY 5 - ROMEO AND JULIET

STORY 4 - JULIUS CAESAR

STORY 3 - THE TAMING OF THE SHREW

STORY 2 - MACBETH

STORY 1 - HAMLET

With 10 individual `Top Facts' sections, INCLUDING A QUICK QUIZ, too.

Completed with an epilogue.

Written in a variety of fonts with humorous black and white cartoon illustrations throughout, this is a brilliant book for swatting up on Shakespeare!

A CHANGE OF HEART 16 May 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
MY DAD IS REALLY INTO SHAKESPEARE. HES ALWAYS TRYING TO GET ME TO SEE THE BEAUTY OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGES AND THE TAPESTRY OF WORDS AND ALL THAT JUNK. WHEN I TELL HIM TO STOP NAGGING ME, HE STARTS QUOTING HAMLET AND MCBETH UNTILL I JUST LEAVE. THAT WAS BEFORE I READ 'SHAKESPEARE STORIES'. THIS BOOK PUT SHAKESPEARE IN UNDERSTANDABLE LANGUAGE, SO I COULD SEE WHAT MY DAD MEANT ABOUT THE 'BEAUTY OF THE STORY'. OK, IM GETTING THERE. BUT ANYWAY, AFTER READING THE BOOK, I TOOK A SHAKESPEARE CLASS AT SCHOOL. WE DID THE PLAY OF 'ROMEO AND JULIET' AND I GOT JULIET! NOW I REALLY LIKE SHAKESPEARE!

Middle School Success 8 Jan 2000
By Christine - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book worked wonderfully with my eighth grade students. It provides simplistic plot summaries and Shakespearean background notes. They really enjoyed the fact that the summaries were in everyday language. It helped us transition into the "harder" versions. Great for middle school!

Shakespeare.......in English 25 May 2003
A Kid's Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book was very good. It gave life to Shakespeare. While I appreaciate the beauty of his words, sometimes Shakespeare is a little......stuffy. But not in this book! It tells Shakespeare in a language I can understand. Even my 7-year-old brother was reading it!!! This is definatly a good book for anyone to enjoy.
