5.0 out of 5 stars A great way to enjoy shakespeare, 20 Nov 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Shakespeare Made Easy - Othello (Paperback)
How can you appreciate the irony and wit of Shakespeare if you haven't a clue what he's talking about? That's what I think, anyway. I find it really difficult to get into Shakespeare, and I usually end up putting it down in favour of something else. This edition gives you the original lines on one page and plain English on the other, so you can read a page of Old English, then a page of New, or you can read the modern version first, to get an idea of the story, then go back to the other version. It really helps, because lets face it, schools, colleges and universities aren't going to give up on Shakespeare. And it really helps when you're doing the exams.

A note on the story, although you are probably required to read it, it is a great story of jealousy and passion. Shakespeare really makes us squirm in this play, and I defy anyone to forget this play quickly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shakespeare with your English Teacher by your side, 19 Jan 2010

This review is from: Shakespeare Made Easy - Othello (Paperback)
I had previously read a couple of Shakespeare plays at school and luckily enough had an English teacher to help me understand what was going on.

I recently bought tickets for Othello in the West End with Lenny Henry and before going to the production I thought I would read the play so that I had an idea of the storyline.

These Shakespeare made easy books are quite simply fantastic I read it once only reading the modern English and then a week before the play in Shakespearian English.

Whilst some of my friends struggled to understand the play, having read this book I fully understood everything that was going on and got all the amusing parts of the play.

For any student studying Shakespeare or anybody about to go to a production of one of his plays, I would strongly recommend that you purchase one of these books as it will increase your enjoyment of the play no end.
