4.0 out of 5 stars The Babes Are Back, in Fine Form! 10 Jun 2011
By Irene - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Kate McCall & her friends are back. Including the long-suffering sheriff, not-so-crazy Polly, Kate's insufferable, pompous children, and Bill the ongoing "maybe" love interest. In this outing, Kate is thrilled to meet a famous botanist, who was college roomies with one of the "Babes". Early on, the boyfriend of the botanist dies almost in plain view of the audience at a dinner/presentation for the local gardening club, and the botanist herself almost dies at the same time.

Their are many twists in this book, including an informative look at poisonous plants of the South, bees (!), and a day at the Master's golf tournament. Also, a surprise involving the sheriff's secretary! I liked this book a lot, and look forward to the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Bunco Babes are back! 5 May 2011
By Annie B - Published on Amazon.com

Kate McCall and her Bunco friends are back for another adventure in sleuthing, though admittedly Kate is the one who has the real sleuthing bug. Actually, she's pretty obsessive about it.

While I completely enjoyed this book, I did figure out who the murderer was early on, but it was fun to see how Kate would discover the truth. I enjoyed her interactions with her friends, the Bunco Babes, and the growing romance between Kate and Bill. The exchanges with her children are a hoot, just what many older folks have to endure with their all-knowing adult children. I also learned a lot about plants and loved the scenes at the Master's in Augusta, GA. There's a lot of humor in the book that kept me chuckling and smiling throughout the book. In fact, I found Shake, Murder, and Roll to be similar humor-wise to Tamar Myers' antique series that is set in the South, though it's not as outrageous and over the top in its humor and antics. Very funny overall.

I loved the book and found it to be a good read. Serenity Cove has some very interesting people (Polly is just too funny), and I find them to be realistic and fun. Overall, a great, entertaining read and I know cozy mystery readers will enjoy it. I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series. I just hope it isn't a year in the making!

4.0 out of 5 stars fun roll the dice on murder 3 May 2011
By Harriet Klausner - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Serenity Cove Estates, South Carolina is a retirement community where Kate McCall chose to live after her husband retired. When he died, she stayed there making friends with several women who formed the Bunco Babe's squad because they love playing the dice game of the same name. Retirement villages are normally serene, but Kate does not know the meaning of the word as she has been involved in two homicide cases that she solved (see Whack and Roll and "Till Dice Do Us Part).

Another death occurs when Dr. Sheila Rapport, host of a cable gardening show, gives a talk at Serenity Cove. In the middle of her speech, Sheila collapses. Her companion Dr. Vaughn Bascomb has a more serious reaction and dies. When Sheila recovers, she tells Kate they were poisoned. Knowing Kate's track record, she asks her to find out the killer is though she assumes it is a stalker. Kate uncovers a horde of suspects with means, motive and opportunity for one of the pair, but who wanted both dead remains just out of reach until the culprit tries to kill Kate.

Putting aside the fact that Kate risks her life as a sub-genre hazard, she and the women in the retirement community are energetic and active. Kate is a believable character who refreshingly admits she addicted to homicide investigation. Her love life adds pizzazz to the mix as Kate like the other Buncos babes roll the dice on murder.
