After their superb debut, The Cars went into decline. 'Candy-O' was a good album lacking a killer track while 'Panorama' lacked direction. 'Shake It Up' saw the band going back to simple pop and contains two outstanding songs, the title track, which is an infectious, upbeat item, and the ballad, 'I'm Not The One'. All five of the tracks on the first side of the original LP are winners. The remaining four songs, however, represent a drop in quality. They tend to be unimaginative and too reliant on synths. 'This Could Be Love' is probably the best of the bunch. The last two tracks, incidentally, are Ric Ocasek songs, not covers of the Buddy Holly hits. Overall, 'Shake It Up' is worth getting if you like their first album.
