Book Description

24 July 2010
A Book of Hours: Shadows Walking opens on a parched Arizona landscape, where Pima County Sheriff's Deputy Rachel Navarro is about to be drawn into the strangest case of her life: A missing girl seems to have been lured to her doom by an angel. Rachel's partner turns up beheaded, the victim of a serial killer whose list of crimes has been growing for centuries. The United States Marshal who commandeers the case claims to be two thousand years old and wears the emblem of the Knights Templar. All this takes place before the Norse werewolf comes to town, before Rachel meets the star-crossed lovers whose life stories were told by Shakespeare, and before she learns she's a half-witch. She's having kind of a bad week. Combining a fully realized fantasy world with the breakneck pace of a modern-day thriller and a cast of eccentric characters drawn from history and legend, A Book of Hours presents an epic adventure for readers who enjoy lighthearted fantasy with a dark and quirky twist.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome read 30 Sep 2013
By A. Wilson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I picked up this book on one of the days it was offered for free, and was immediately hooked. The author creates a fascinating world, where immortal aspects of good, evil, and some shades of grey walk alongside the unsuspecting mortals. This is sort of a murder mystery, but it's far more than that. I absolutely loved the main characters (and some of the secondary ones), and by the time I finished this book, I bought two more by this author, sight unseen. One of them is a prequel to this book (I kinda wish I had read it first, but either one of them could be stand-alone books), and I'm ready to start searching around for any others written by this guy. I find his books to be intelligently written and moderately humorous (although these are certainly not comedies), and the characters are well-rounded and make you care about them...even though, in some cases, you probably shouldn't. Definitely pick this one up--you won't regret it.

So exciting! Many wonderful, well developed characters. Dialogue is clever and often very funny. I found myself casting the movie version in my mind many times. Great read - even better the second time through.
