Book Description

12 Feb 2012
It’s 1917 in East St. Louis, Illinois. The wealthy Goodwin family and their children have been living with a dangerous secret. Suddenly, their 16 year old Negro maid Emma Lynn starts asking questions no one wants to answer. Where did she come from? Where are her parents? Why does she look like a darker version of the Goodwin daughter? The love of a local white boy finally helps unveil the truth. But just when they are about to run away to find happiness together, race riots erupt and Emma Lynn gets caught in the middle. Now the Goodwins must make a choice to save her even if it means revealing to the world who they really are. Includes Study Guide questions

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read! 6 Mar 2012
By myheartbeats2 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This was definitely a Great Read! There were so many moments that my mouth was literally left open in an OMGosh state! Two words describe the character Mrs. Goodwin: Selfish and heartless.

Note: I borrowed this book from the Amazon Prime Library, but I've spread the word to non members because this book is worth more than it's current price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Book!!!!!!!! Kuddos to Leslie DuBois 21 Mar 2012
By J. Rogers - Published on Amazon.com

I don't do many reviews on items, but I have to say this book was good from beginning to end.Seeing that I was born and raised in East St Louis, Il I felt that this book captured the true essence of the city in every aspect.Even though this is a fictional love story(which is phenomenal) there are many aspects of the city's history captured thoughout this book, the riot's for instance I have read and learned about them so muuch that I was amazed that the author kept true to the actual events about what happened the day of the riot's.

3.0 out of 5 stars Endings Always Let Me Down 25 Mar 2012
By S. Hayes - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have to say I believe Leslie Dubois is a very talented writer. She knows how to craft a story. But this book along with others I have read have always left me upset and depressed. There's never a happy ending...ever. It's kind of sad. I read romance novels to escape a bit and of course not everything is going to be smooth sailing, but she is incapable of writing a book where everyone lives-lol. The endings always spoil any good feelings I have about the book. Still think she's talented though.
