Book Description

Shadows of the Beast is unlike any other work on the Antichrist. This book does not attempt to name a specific person or over-emphasize a single aspect of the Antichrist, but examines the whole of Scripture to fulfill the goal of the book’s subtitle, "How the identity of the coming Antichrist will be revealed to the faithful church". This is a good-faith effort to present what the whole of Scripture has to teach about the Antichrist and how this information is supposed to be used and practically applied by the true followers of Christ. This is not a textbook work in the classic sense.

Most books on the Antichrist overly focus on a few characteristics provided in Scripture or on a single aspect of his background. This is why at varying times throughout church history, and even to this present time, there are those who assert the Antichrist must be the pope, or that he must come from Rome, or that he must be Islamic, just to name a few of the apparent paradoxes. One of the critical teachings provided in Shadows of the Beast is how these elements are all pieces of the puzzle and that there is actually no contradiction in stating that they are all partially correct. The seeming contradictions have come about because authors and scholars have taken their one piece of the puzzle and tried to make it the solution to the whole puzzle instead of realizing they are only in possession of part of the solution. As Jacob states in the book, they are correct in what they are saying but incorrect in what they fail to say.

To begin with, when it comes to the topic of the Antichrist, Scripture clearly depicts three aspects: the spirit of antichrist which has been and is at work during every period of history, the "many" antichrists who appear throughout Scripture and history as figures who teach something about the final one to come, and the final person of the Antichrist who is the ultimate fulfillment in the two Beasts of Revelation 13 which we most often refer to as the Antichrist and the False Prophet. (Make no mistake, however, there are two persons involved.) Therefore in order to piece together the entire puzzle it is necessary to study each of these in depth in order to know exactly what the picture looks like that we are trying to assimilate.

In Shadows of the Beast the twenty or so chapters are divided into six major sections:

Part One: The Spirit of the Antichrist.
Part Two: The Many Antichrists—Biblical
Part Three: The Many Antichrists—Historical
Part Four: The Milieu of the Antichrist
Part Five: The False Prophet
Part Six: The Final Antichrist

The goal of this book is not to name a specific person and declare him to be the Antichrist and the reader will find none. There are greater purposes at work here that have come as the result of Jacob’s many years of prayerful consideration and preaching where the person of the Antichrist is concerned.

Why do some say the Antichrist must and only can be Islamic, while others categorically maintain he will be a ruler from Rome, while others still say he would have to be a Jew in order to successfully deceive the Jews? Jacob painstakingly employs the whole counsel of God’s Word to show that each of these positions provides a part of the answer, but by not taking into consideration the whole of God’s Word they are each falling short in providing a conclusive answer. Instead of these factors all being mutually exclusive as some might maintain, the scriptural truth is that many of these things are actually complementary to each other.

Another critical teaching in Shadows of the Beast is the biblical foundation that the Rapture will not occur until the Antichrist is identified to the faithful church, much the same way as the Apostles never recognized Judas—the most important figure of the Antichrist in Scripture—until he was revealed to the Apostles at the Last Supper just prior to his coming out against Christ.

Format:Kindle Edition
I have no hesitation in recommending what I can only describe as a meticulous and relevant study. A message which is extremely well presented, thoroughly researched, and replete with both historical and Scriptural references.

This work, by the founder of Moriel Ministries, investigates the many different approaches to interpreting end-times prophecy, involving a wide range of subjects which include the Antichrist, the Beast, the Church, the Jews and Israel.

Each and every issue is analized in considerable depth, with both Scriptural reason and reference being given. Such an extensive range of information is provided that it is virtually impossible to do justice to such within the confines of a review. This is required reading.

I can only qualify my statement by saying that I consider this to be a message that desperately needs to be heard by as wide an audience as possible. An audience which should include all elements of the professing Church, and the Jewish people.

The writer warns of the dangers of ignoring the Hebraic hermeneutics required to understand and interpret apocalyptic literature. He emphasising how the Scriptural solution is, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to handle and interpret Scripture in the same manner that Scripture does.

The reader being shown that without this approach, end-times prophecy cannot be correctly understood, and the Church cannot be prepared for either the return of Christ or the identification of the Anti-Christ.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for every student of Scripture 30 Oct. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Many have written about this subject. Most people are scared off this topic now because it has been so glamorised and distorted from Hollywood to Surburbiton and yet few have done their homework. This writer has. There is no hype, emotionalism or agenda other than to look with a disciplined approach to what the Scriptures actually say. The writer knows the original languages, the context of history and has insightful and shocking information to share. It is not a superficial read and it challenges one to prayerfully read the Word of God, not be second-guessed, seek genuine understanding, check histories, use your head and get ready.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beware of False Teachers 28 Feb. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Excellent guidance and exhortation to be faithful to God's word in order to discern true teaching and not be taken in by deception and false teaching. Jacob is a very deep thinker and a remarkable scholar and sometimes this makes him difficult hot follow, particularly when he uses Jewish thinking in relation to understanding scripture However the effort worth while and. timely as world events seem to be pointing to the return of Jesus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shadows of the Beast 9 Jan. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
In my opinion this is a masterpiece and a warning to all Christians, who are either sleepwalking at present, or who think they are going to be zapped out of here before Daniel's 70th week that they are sadly mistaken. It is a hard read in places and like most of Jacob's work you will need to read it more than once to even absorb a portion of the content. I would encourage all those thinking about purchasing to also buy "The Dilemma of Laodicea" and read it first.
The church will know the identity of the antichrist before the rapture occurs. Please do not be deceived by those who tell you otherwise.
As an aside I would also strongly recommend the podcasts and book by Chris White on "Mystery Babylon" and the podcast "The rapture problem solved with Matthew 24".

5.0 out of 5 stars Not an easy read but well worth the effort 2 Jan. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Bible prophesy regarding the end times is not an easy subject to understand. This is a well researched book that does not pull its punches regarding the false teachers of today. Mr Prasch has well resurched his subject and gives clear and well argued reasons for his conclusions. This book is not an easy read but you will learn much from it, well worth the effort.
