Product Description

Shadowmancer takes you into a world of superstition, magic, and witchcraft where nothing can be taken for granted, and the ultimate sacrifice might even be life itself.

Obadiah Demurall is a sorceror who is seeking to control the highest power in the universe. He will stop at nothing. The only people in his way are Raphah, Kate, Thomas, and the mysterious Jacob Crane.

Packed full of history, folklore, and smuggling, this tale of their epic battle will grip both young and old. The thrills, suspence, and danger are guaranteed to grab the attention and stretch imaginations to the limit.

After all the hype about being 'the next Harry Potter', this book proved a bit disappointing. It's a sort of cross between Harry Potter and the old 'smuggling' novels like Du Maurier's Jamaica Inn and Falkner's Moonfleet, in which the vicar always turns out to be the bad guy. But I'm not sure how much the gothic undertones really fit that milieu - the magic seems a bit out of place among smugglers and pistols. The other thing is that, if you're comparing it with Harry Potter, the characters aren't as engaging or well worked out - there's a lot more description and details but somehow it doesn't quite hit the spot. My daughter quite enjoyed it, though, so I'm giving it 3 stars.

Shadowmancer 23 May 2010
Format:Paperback
Good fantasy that started G.P Taylor's career. Like much fiction it entails the struggle between good and evil. It is set in the past, in England with a variety of different characters the main ones being teens. Each one of the three main heros is different due to their view of the world, yet they unite to stop the forces of evil (the vicar). The action of the book occurs in a relatively small time period, but it is beautifully complemented with insight into the character's pasts by using flashbacks.

If you enjoy Christian fiction you will probably also like 'The Chosen Ones' by Alister McGrath and 'Amrach and the Paraclete' by John Glass:

Chosen Ones #1 (Aedyn Chronicles)

Amrach and the Paraclete
