Book Description

6 Aug 2009 Shadowmagic

A Lord of the Rings for the 21st century. Only a lot shorter. And funnier. And completely different.

Conor thought he was an average teenager. OK, so his father only had one hand, spoke to him in ancient languages and was a bit on the eccentric side but, other than that, life was fairly normal. Until, that is, two Celtic warriors on horseback and wearing full armour appear at his front door and try to kill him. After that, things get pretty weird.

Shadowmagic is a fantasy adventure for young adults (although grown ups will like it too). Written by one of the most popular magicians in the country it brings a fresh approach to the genre and will have a broad appeal beyond the fantasy sections.

4.0 out of 5 stars wanted to read more 7 May 2012
By French Pie TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I downloaded it for my 11 year old son. Of course, I had to read it first to make sure that it is appropriate and no bad language. As soon as I started it, I was hooked. I did not expect it, to be honest. There are many books of this kind nowadays, and to keep the reader interested is getting more and more difficult. But this story is very nice, a very good plot, fast paced, full of humour, a bit of danger, and of course, magic. But to say it is a ''Lord of the Ring for the 21st century''? No. Of course no, nothing can compare to the Lord of the Rings. But the author, John Lenahan, has an individual style of writing. Why wanting to compare his to someone else's? he is good enough in his own right. If you like magic, fantasy, then download this book. I do think you will like it.
Edited: I would like to add that Shadownaguc is one of these rare finds in children's free books. I will not go over the plot again as other reviewers have done it, but I have purchased Prince of Hazel and Oak (Shadowmagic) and pre-orderedSons of Macha (Shadowmagic) from same author and was not disappointed with the Prince of Hazel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Fantasic 26 Jan 2010
Format:Paperback
I first found this book a few years ago when it was published as a free audio book, and from the very first chapter, I was hooked.

It is fast paced and as a result, some character information is skipped over. however, don't let that put you off. This is simply a fantastic, creative story that, as the cover says, the anyone from the ages of 12 to 112 will absolutely love.

Shadowmagic is a totally gripping story that, in my opinion, should be made into a film. it's a great mix of the troubles of a teenager who gets magically transported to the 'land' of Tir Na Nog where the adventures of Connor lead him on quest to stop his evil uncle from destroying the land.

This book has everything, tension, suspense, magical creatures, telepathic trees, love and a very strong storyline. If you are looking for a great book to share with your kids, or just fancy treating yourself to a wonderful story, buy Shadowmagic!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice read.
I would hardly call it a 'Lord of the rings for the 21st century'. It's writing is nowhere near as deep and enigmatic as Tolkien. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Hmm...
Good book, but at times a little hard to understand. That said, it is still a very good read, with some comedy in it as well.
