Tauric has been crowned Emperor yet feel increasingly powerless to influence events. Despair begins to taint his every decision. Keren Asherol remains haunted by her shattering encounter with one of the Daemonkind, while her twin, the mirrorchild Nerek, is dogged by sinister omens. And far to the north the Shadowking Byrnak broods on his towertop. I definetly liked the first one better. This one didn't flow as well as it's predecessor had. We'll see if the next one of is better or not. Overall, not too bad, but there are better ones out there.

**A book I would also recommend is The Unsuspecting Mage by Brian S. Pratt. This, the first installment of The Morcyth Saga is a great beginning for a new author. Battles, magic, gods, secret passages and intrigue, all the elements of a classic epic fantasy! Any fantasy reader will enjoy it.

Cobley's first book was engagingly grim and well plotted. The sequel is a big disappointment. The story wanders all over the place. Plot elements occur without any definable rhyme or reason, and the ending is so contrived that I practically binned the book in the last couple of chapters. Shame, because I had expected better. Not a *complete* turkey, but would still look quite good on a Christmas dinner plate.
