1.0 out of 5 stars Power Plays Are A Con, 20 Jan 2000
By
This review is from: Shadow Watch (Tom Clancy's Power Plays) (Paperback)
Sorry to disagree but I feel that all the powerplays are just a con and this is no exception. Does Clancy really have any involvement in the writing of them? I have read everything in print in his name and I doubt it.

This is as bad as his own are brilliant. Complete waffle from first to last with page after page filled with dissection of various characters for no good reason other than to fill space. This is garbage written to make money off the back of a famous name. It makes you feel angry and well ripped off. Why did I buy it? You live in hope that with Clancy's name attached it might have something to offer. Wrong big style. Consign it where it belongs. To the dustbin.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not one of Clancy's best, 11 Oct 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Shadow Watch (Tom Clancy's Power Plays) (Paperback)
The worst Tom Clancy book I've read, although I suspect he hardly wrote any of it. Laboured plot, interesting subject matter but not enough made of it. Not in the same league as his Jack Ryan or Ops Centre novels. Borrow it from a library, but don't buy it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sarcasm in Kazakhstan, 5 July 2000

This review is from: Shadow Watch (Tom Clancy's Power Plays) (Paperback)
So it isn't a red blooded Clancy - It's full of waffle and the plot is overwrought, but let's give it some praise. The idea of derailing a train by electromagnetic pulse is ingenious, just a shame that so many people have to die. This is pretty similar to SSN, though with too much characterisation (that usually makes you want to go and do something else) and not enough plot. Best advice is to stick to the master and don't buy anything with Mr Greenberg's name on it.
