I bought this book expecting the usual high quality analysis and information typical of Tom Clancy's "factual" series. What I got was a vague and disjointed "story" of the evolution of US Special Forces.
There seemed to be no chronological order or analysis of each arm (ie Army, Navy or Air Force etc) just a brief flit between each and back again. No real information was given, often brief descriptions of operations without any detail of any kind at all. It quickly became hard going and frustrating.
In short I read it and learned nothing I did not already know.
I would not recommend this book, but would recommend "Special Forces" by the same author. This book is much more structured, detailed and interesting. It details training, equipment, and operations in an organised and informative manner.
Then again, as an infantry officer, who am I to criticise an American "Shadow Warrior" General and a best selling author? I expected better from such a stable.
