Product Description

Product Description

"Transpersonal Psychology" concerns the study of those states and processes in which people experience a deeper sense of who they are, or a greater sense of connectedness with others, with nature, or the spiritual dimension. Pioneered by respected researchers, such as Jung, Maslow and Tart, it has nonetheless struggled to find recognition among mainstream scientists. Now that is starting to change. Michael Daniels teaches the subject as part of a broadly-based psychology curriculum, and this book brings together the fruits of his studies over recent years. It will be of special value to students, and its accessible style will appeal also to all who are interested in the spiritual dimension of human experience. The appendix lists relevant organisations, academic courses, and recommended further reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Superb Contribution to the Literature, 15 Nov 2005
By A Customer
This is a very welcome book. Daniel's essays all make headway in our understanding of transpersonal theory, and unlike many books containing collected essays this book has a clear theoretical and narrative coherence. One comes away feeling one has learned new things, especially about the shadow and the psychology of evil. In fact, the book is so useful for those seeking a broad overview of transpersonal psychology that I am making it the essential read in my module on Transpersonal Psychology at Coventry. A must read for any serious student of the subject, and researchers and academics too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great read for academics and students, 7 Nov 2007
This book gives a great insight into the history and nature of Transpersonal Psychology, There is no attempt to stray away from Transpersoanl reasoning or theory. My belief is Daniels tries to make sense and also explain the Transpersonal, whilst also trying to maintain the serious scientific context, which Psychology is continually bound to.

My impression is that Daniels is a serious Transpersonal Psychologist, whom has published articles in many Transpersonal related Journals. In fact I came across such articles before the book had been written.

My only concern is the lack of understanding of experiences in more negative social situations, however this is a problem more applicable to previous writers. At least in this book we see Daniels attempting to approach many transpersonal experiences which have been ignored in the past.
